Just wanted to allude to the point of how decent our play looked last night with Ryan Taylor out on the right wing. Not necessarily known for taking his man on and getting to the byline, but showed a good composure on the ball to keep the game fluid - something Obertan doesn't seem like he truly fluent at yet without slowing down our play.

We also looked a lot more sound defensively on the right for a long time, and it wasn't no surprise that having Raylor on the right coincided with Simpson having a very good performance both defensively and attack wise.

What are your views of having Ryan Taylor as our permanent right midfielder.

(Also, in my opinion, Yohan Cabaye should take free kicks and Ryan Taylor for corners - his corners were better than Cabaye's in previous games)

Not permanent as he wont improve and isnt that good, but I certainly think he should keep his place in the short term.

Just like Barton there, it worked for us last year so maybe again, but we all know Ober will be back

I think he might find himself there again for QPR, but long-term I think we should definitely try to find a better option.
Nevertheless, his defensive work was good - but as a result of lacking Obertan's pace, we didn't really have an outlet anywhere on the pitch to really run with the ball. That was the only problem with the tactics.

Notice how ridiculously high up the pitch he was when we attacked? Not complaining as it clearly worked, but I was surprised how lopsided we were, especially as he's usually a full back. Almost as if we were playing 4-3-3 at times.

This. He can cross better than Obertan, and I think we should still play him there against QPR. But definitely, DEFINITELY look to buy a better RW in the summer. (Barnetta, anyone? ;))

Tbf i think the fact man u didn't play a lw also helped us out on the right side. When they put giggs there he caused a few problems but raylor apart from a few dodgy passes inside had a good game

give ober another run against bburn on sat but im tempted to agree that r.tayor may be a good option for the rest of the season.
what i did notice was that due to taylors lack of pace simpson had to do a lot of running last night to give attacks more pace, however with taylor being a natural rb this may not be an issue as he will be able to cover

I think Taylor should stay in the team, but not at the expense of Santon at LB. Santon appears to be a much better player defensively and is very good going forward and very good with the ball at his feet. Taylor is good from set pieces and generally getting the ball into the box and he linked up very well with Simpson last night and kept the right hand side of Man U's midfield fairly quiet I thought.

Last nights tactics, team and formation proved to be perfect for that game against the current champions. So I think it is safe to say that there will be other games where the same lineup would be favourite.

So i'd say that he has proven himself worthy of a regular starting place when we need to play those tactics.

There will be games though where a winger will be needed and he is not suited to that.

I mentioned this a few weeks ago. Raylor's passing, crossing and all round midfield qualities are good. He lacks pace but it's better than being constantly frustrated with Obertan, who can't really beat many people despite being super fast anyway.

Raylor shouldn't be the permanent RM but he deserves a chance.

Along the same lines as what Donkey Toon said, I'm glad that Pardew said after the game that these tactics were designed especially for that game. I thought Ryan Taylor was exceptional last night, but against poorer teams we shouldn't be playing such a direct style and should opt for pace to worry them.

But he was still the weak link - in fact I don't remember a decent cross from him in the game (potentially the beers influenced this). He has again flattered to deceive ala left back role where a lot of people on her was sucking him off (and only last couple of weeks back tracking on his ****tiness). That said he did a lot better than I was expecting and far better than Obertan. To me a winger is almost more important now than a CB and a striker

I'll agree with the end of this, right now we really don't have a midfield goal threat aside from Cabaye, and his attacking influence is heavily determined upon the week's tactics and line-up. If we're continuing with the thought HBA can't play out wide, then I think we need someone out there who can pose a real threat of scoring. We rely far too heavily on the strikers for scoring and I hope that isn't highlighted while Ba is gone.

I was ridiculed before yesterdays match when I inadvertently picked the starting 11 in the formation thread (except I had Arfa instead of Shola), but it was the obvious tactic. Everyone is too busy groping in their pants over Obertan's pace to realise that he's useless, and that having Ryan Taylor as a wide-man would provide more decent cover at the back and better service (even from deep).

Happy to see I was for once right on the money with a tactic suggestion.

I agree with those wanting a new RW this window, but surely they'll be expensive and we won't spend any sort of money...
