Hope you have a good season. Anyway the real reason I have come on here tonight and I hope the mods dont mind this......my local team Darlington have only a few days left and Barrow(A) could be the last game ever and the club with 128 years of history could be gone. I know it might be cheeky but desperate times call for desperate measures we are collecting money to keep the club alive through paypal on the Uncovered website it would be great if you could have a look at the site and give the club your support or even if its only a pound donate to a club that has that tried and failed due to corrupt chairman building stadium too big for a club of our needs and the last 2 chairman trying to make profits off the land then to try and keep the club going. I would be really grateful even if you have a look at the site even suggestions would do. Like I said I dont want to come on here begging but desperate measures call for desparate times. Good luck for the season only hope we get the end our season with a football club. Thanks for reading this. www.darlofc.co.uk If you want to donate that would be great also: http://www.darlofc.co.uk/forum/viewt...hp?f=2&t=15740
As much as I sympathise with you mate, the few quid you could hope to receive, would be like pissing in the wind. Sadly you need someone with money and a philanthropic bent. Best of luck in your efforts though.
Good luck, life without your favourite team may well be torture, I think every football fan will have sympathy with you all
Darlo, What the hell have you got to apologize for? After 128 years of endeavour, the generations of people who cared deeply, this shouldn't and won't ever be considered "begging" in my house. I'll go to your website and, whilst I don't have a lot, what I've got you'll get. I'd like to offer you and Darlington F.C. the very best. Good luck. I sincerely hope you make it.
With a population of nearly 130,000, but crowds of 1,200 or so, I find it difficult to have much sympathy with Darlington FC to be honest. If the people of the town don't give a ****e about their own football club then why should we? I'm afraid if the club went out of existence tomorrow I would lose little sleep. If the attendance was around 10% of the population, say 12,000 every game, then I might have more interest in the future of the club myself.
That's a bit harsh Cest. I worked in Darlo for a few years and even went to the old Feethams ground a couple of times. It is a nice town and the fans who do go are very serious about their club. I think it is a damned shame what has happened. If Reynolds had rebuilt Feethams, or the council had been a bit more willing to have the shops etc that he wanted next to the new ground all may have been different. This latest guy always seemed like another villain to me too, only not as honest about it as Reynolds was! The supporters have no influence on who comes in as owners unfortunately, look at Blackburn for example! And we just got lucky with Short. If it had not been for Quinn and his blarney where might we be now?? I will donate to this cause because I feel Darlington's 128 years of footballing history deserves some effort from its nearest Premier League neighbours. Best of luck lad.
Not harsh mate, just true. I too visited the old Feethams ground but it was in a worse state than an Afghan ****house even 25 years ago. Love him or hate him Reynolds had a vision and buillt the best stadium outside the EPL for the Darlo crowd and that should have been the catalyst for at least a 10,000 or 12,000 regular crowd, which would have kick started their rise. 25,000 is maybe a tad ambitious and a 15,000 stadium would have been far better tbh but nevertheless, even with a fantastic new stadium they couldnt be arsed to come and support it. The fact that there are 1,500 fanatical fans now trying to keep it afloat doesnt warrant me putting my hand in my pocket to help out. Both SAFC and the craas have taken sides down there in pre-season recently and also taken 3,000 to 4,000 fans there with them, only for the locals to not bother turning up at all. Pathetic. Let them go under for me without any feeling of loss. Hartlepool have proper fans with a similar sized town. I'd rather support them as a lower league NE club to be honest because at least they turn up for games and care. If we took 4,000 to Harptlepool pre-season it would be a sell out.
Thanks for the replies lads and the Darlington fans thank anyone who has made a donation, anyway when we first moved into the stadium we were getting 4-5000 gates on average and when we have been in administration 3 times since we have moved to the stadium. I can understand Cestria reply but with having 3 big clubs like Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough doesnt help our fanbase and when you walk around Darlington all you see now is Newcastle shirts, Sunderland Shirts and loads of Boro shirts that people are wearing, and I have nothing against that except these people are from Darlo supporting these clubs. If any of these clubs were where Darlo are they would be supporting their local team instead of travelling 30-40 miles to see premier football its just the way things are now with the introduction of sky. Hartlepool are only getting them gates at the moment due to a special offer of £100 per season ticket which they can afford to do as they are run by a oil company who can waive away any losses or they would be in the same situation as us. Anyway good luck really like your team and Martin O'Neill and my Grandad was born in Pennywell and supported Sunderland till he died all the best and thanks.
to be perfectly honest the majority of people in Darlo support Man utd and Liverpool, with newcastle probably the next popular team. which is a ****e state of affairs but thats modern football culture since the introduction of sky and football 24/7. my old local (which i visited over xmas) has pictures of Gerrard, Shearer and Cantona on the wall along with Man Utd, Liverpool, Newcastle team photos. it is a strange old place with very little of its own identity in the shadow of other bigger NE clubs and with very little to shout about over the years people have swapped going to game for the pub and sky. the town has a population of 100,000 and when the new stadium opened there was a renewed interest in Darlo. however, there was a disagreement with the council over the management of the infrastructure and costs of building new roads and car parks and other services etc which meant they limited the initial allowed capacity to approximately 12,000 instead of 27,000. this meant they lost out on some of the revenue they were initially expecting which may have prpelled them further up the leagues at the time but that was a long time ago now and they have been through the crap many times since. i have fond memories of Feethams in the tin shed with mates when we were at school, used to go a bit when sunderland where away.
