Since THFC6061 is too lazy to do the FA Cup matches I've taken it upon myself to pick up the slack and do the research. It can't be that hard, right?

On the weekend Tottenham Hotspur will take on the little known football team of Cheltenham City. This is the first time in Chester's 80 year history that they have taken on the Mighty Tottenham [Hotspur] and as it's probably the first time anyone's seen them play I've copy and pasted from Wikipedia a little introduction to the team.

Who are they, where are they and why?

A team from somewhere outside London, the Warchiefs play at the newly renovated If The Council Ask It's A Loft Extension stadium, although it is often double booked by the Girl Guides hockey team and the result is settled by a game of darts at the Prince's Head down the road. As a part time team they often leave the stadium soon after halftime to collect their JSA and head down the Prince's Head for a game of darts. With 7 local darts tournaments and high score on the IT Box to their name, Robbie Keane's original boyhood club are sure to cause an upset and given their short tempers they will no doubt also be upset at somepoint or another.

They Played For [Tottenham Hot]Spurs and Chelternam(Probably)
    Paul Stewart
Aaron "Devo" Lennon(player for us, Communications Officer for them)
Rafael "The Dutch Destroyer" Van Der Voort
    Paul Stewart
    Phil "The Power" Ifill

I hope THFC6061 is taking notes. Too much info to take in, in one sitting. Will have to come back later.

THFC6061 would have discovered Ossie had played for them <grr>

I thought he had too but I contacted their club historian/groundsman/physio/reserve team coach/first team coach/coach driver/photocopier and he said it was just a nickname they gave a player from South Africa, similarly Gazza turned out to be a Gareth.

Rotate the squad, rotate the squad, rotate the squad...

If I say it enough, will Harry do it?

Seriously... this is the match we've all been waiting for - rest the damn first team!

Gomes (or Cudicini), Corluka, Dawson, Bassong, Rose, Pienaar, Kranjcar, Livermore, Lennon, Defoe, Pav

Lennon and Dawson need this match to get them back up to match fitness, as does Defoe really.

I'd go with that, although I might start GDS instead of Defoe and have him out on the wing with Kranjcar playing the VDV role.

Pav can't play the lone role though, YV.
Probably a good idea to keep Defoe playing when we can too, as he's not going to start regularly if everyone's fit.
Keep him match-fit, confident and scoring. <ok>

Somebody mentioned last week that Coulibaly might be available, so he could get a cameo if we're out of sight with twenty minutes to go.

He's only just come back from injury himself, I wouldn't give him more than half the match to be on the safe side and I think it's better to leave him out and play him against Everton.

Just realised GDS, Pienaar and Lennon makes 3 wingers so maybe give Carroll a game in the middle instead of GDS.

Pav's not great wherever he plays if he doesn't score. I think there's a strong chance that the best bid we're going to get for him is a loan move so we might aswell see if there's any chance he can be cover for Ade.

Coulibaly may as well get a go on the bench, as we don't really have any other strikers, if Defoe and Pavlyuchenko start.
    Disturbingly short up front.

Hope Coulibaly gets a chance off the bench, along with some other youngsters.

    Going for:

    Carlo,
    Charlie, Daws, Bass, Rose
    Gio, Livermore, Niko, Pienaar
    Pav, Defoe

Subs: Gomes, Coulibaly, Pritchard, Luongo, Bostock, Fredericks, Dawkins (think he's back from San Jose loan now).

    Bit of a stretch, no?
I remember when Stoke had just signed Beattie and some Spurs fans sang "you're just a fat James Beattie" to him when he came on :D

I'm happy to leave this one to you, YV!

Oh... and it's Cheltenham Town, not City.

It's not that often that you play against a team you've never met before in a domestic cup competition, so being drawn against Cheltenham Town is a rather unique experience.

In fact, they become the 94th different team Spurs have played in the FA Cup since our first match against West Herts (now Watford FC) in 1894.

I think Harry will use the opportunity to give many of our fringe squad players a run-out, with some experienced first teamers on the bench just in case things don't go quite to plan.

But if anyone is interested in Tottenham Hotspur's FA Cup Record from 1894 to 2012, you can find all the information you want here...

Visits to Cheltenham usually involve a gold cup, so I thought I'd see what the repurcussions of an FA cup replay would involve.

The nearest pub is The Fox and Hounds which has a "home" feel...in other words a lounge with a Stella Artois mini fridge.

"The picturesque Cotswold Hills around Cheltenham can easily be seen from inside the ground."...I would save the entrance fee and see inside the ground easily from the Cotswold Hills. :D

Best behaviour is recommended as this fella found out...Neil Le Milliere, a visiting Exeter City fan who also supports Man City, informs me 'I have found some of the stewarding to be over the top, and some supporters were ejected from the ground for little reason'.

I can state from experience that the best place to drink in Cheltselfharm is J's Vodka bar - which happens to be a converted house just off the high street, which is less than five minutes walk from the ground (and right next to the bus station)

Exeter fans are scum, notso. Wouldn't be surprised if he deserved it.

THFC6061 - Well their badge suggests it's the Cheltenham Warchiefs, I'll get my researching hat on tomorrow to try and settle this. Good stating though <ok>
