Wishful thinking, but QPR and Wolves have both made bids of £2.5m for him.

Seem to recall him being pretty good for the Mackems (and Simmo went on loan there before anyone makes that argument), and I reckon even if the price squeezes up to £3m then he'd be worth it as cover - apparently he can play all along the back four so basically he's like Perch only not ****e!

I used to really like him and still think he is probably good, but he hasn't progressed how I thought he would when I saw him at a young age

If I had a choice between Onuoha and Tomkins I'd say Tomkins tbh. If we get him he will impress us imo.

Onuoha is fast as ****, but if he wasn't he'd be another Bramble tbh.

I'd happily pass Simpson on to QPR if it meant bringing Onuoha in.

Unfair on Simpson, bar the mistake at Anfield he has been solid for us.

I just can't agree, he's the weak link of our defense by some margin. Physically decent but positionally inept.

I like Onuoha but I'm not sure he'd get in ahead of Williamson, and that would make him 4th choice. I'd imagine wherever he is going it will be to be the first choice centre back after spending the first half of this season kicking his heels. Good player but just doesn't seem a good fit for us at present. I'm not keen on Tomkins based on what I've seen but plenty seem keen enough. After his horror show at St James when Bestie bagged three (comfortably the worst on the pitch that day) I was sure he was just another West Ham youth product hyped to the high heavens. This seemed backed up by his performances for the 21's but there must be something with him as plenty are credited with an interest. I assume he has done well this year but couldn't say because I refuse to watch any football game (and I'm being kind terming it football) involving fat sam.

Simmo's been very good this season, barring that one mistake at Anfield. What we do need in is someone who can make Perch redundant, preferably a Vermaelen-esque CB who can cover LB at the same time (thus removing that responsibility from Raylor)
I'm not sure if Onouha would displace Willo or Simmo, but I'd rather have him on the bench than Perch <ok>

Having a cracking year to be honest and prior to the Liverpool game, had been our best defender for 3 or 4 games. In general he has defended very well. He is not the most cultured or offers the greatest attacking threat but he is one of those guys you're loath to lose because he would stick his face in the way if meant keeping a clean sheet. Santon will end up there but I'd like to think by the time we get a left back in we're in a strong enough position to retain both.

Got to say no disrespect to Wolves and QPR, would have thought Onouha would be going to a bigger club or a club not so far down the table than them. Think I'd have him at Newcastle as a squad player and someone who could compete for a place with Williamson while Taylor is out injured. Also can compete for Simpson for a position at right back.

Apparantly we are not interested in him according to the Journal. I know its just a paper but it was only a paper linking us to him in the first place.

I would like him here though. I think he is a good player but as has been mentioned, he wont come here to be 3rd/4th choice.

I wasn't aware we were linked at all, I was just wondering if it was worth going for him ;)

Depends whether he wants more bench warming or game time .. would certainly warrant a first team place at the likes of Wolves, would be more of a gamble at a 'top half' team ..

Onuoha is one of those where I'd take him or leave him. He is a decent, quite proven player, but won't kill myself if he signs for another team.

On Simpson, I do like him and think people are being a bit harsh on him, but if he doesn't sign a contract then he needs his head seeing to because he will never play for a team as good or big as us ever again. I would get over it if he did leave like.

I agree Simmo is a weak link at the minute but for now he's good enough. Centre back and left back cover? Liam Ridgewell, stand out candidate. In the long run I see a new first team left back with Santon moving to right back, although his marauding runs and cutting in were excellent yesterday.
