Made worse because Apple always requires you use their software and peripherals...and I refuse to use iTunes, nor have ever owned an ipod, iphone, or ipad. Maybe I'm stubborn against Apple, but I just don't want any company that sells hardware, software or electronics having any kind of exclusivity over a form of media

I'd rather have Murdoch's hellspawn in control of the rights than Apple.

My ethos for years has been to make all websites device agnostic and **** off Apple who make people reliant on ****ty apps.

Cant see it happening, Sky wouldn't let apple outbid them. They would be ****ed without the Football rights.

If it happens, let's hope they don't have unbiased commentary. There'd be no apples left within in a 2-mile radius of where Mrtiote lives.

My Dad's a massive techno geek and a militant apple fan, in the house we've got a 3 apple laptops, 2 apple computers, 4 iphones and a mac mini tagged onto our TV. I love my apple gear but I can't see how this would be good for anyone other than apple.

I can't see what they'd offer that'd be different and therefore how it could be justified? Perhaps getting more cameras out there and offering a pay per match scheme for a single club?

Agree with this so much. I don't think there is any other company I would say this about either.

Long term, Internet based delivery will be the way these things go, Sky is doing it already with Sky Go etc .. as far as competition and multiple service options over the current Sky monopoly goes I'd personally welcome this, Apple tech aside they (and Google) have the infinite resources to swiftly develop this type of flexible media delivery .. that fact that Sky has 20 years head start on them would suggest that they'll not improve on Sky's service any time soon .. but no reason why they shouldn't start .. <ok>

Don't forget that this is a tender, which means that the Premier League ultimately decide who it goes to based on a number of factors alongside money. If the EPL feel that this move would dramatically reduce coverage, viewing figures, revenues and general popularity of the league, then they will resist it.

Similarly, I can't see Sky letting themselves get outbid. The EPL is one of the major, major reasons for Sky Sports subscriptions, and without it, revenues would plummet.

If I ever make my fortune I swear I will purchase the rights from Sky and make them free-to-air out of my own pocket if necessary.

Apple wouldn't succeed if they got the rights because they'd try and keep them to their exclusive service - the same thing that in my view killed Setanta.

What killed Setanta was they mortgaged their future on the premier league deal, went mental on advertising etc. They worked it out afterwards, they would've needed to almost match Sky's subscription numbers to break even. This was made worse by people not paying full price, as a result of adding channels to Virgin, BT Vision and Sky boxes, where Setanta only made £10 a month rather than £20. It was doomed from the start.
