It sounds like bollocks because Millwall weren't PL when they were in the UEFA Cup, but they might have changed the rules. Iwonder if it comes from the Fair Play League qualification criteria? The top non-Euro qualified PL team in the Fair Play table is nominated for Europe and then there's a series of draws for them o see if we get a place. I seem to remember thinking it was ridiculous because we could have had Birmingham and Blackpool in it this year despite being in the Championship, but on the last day I think it was Blackpool dropped below Fulham or someone else in the fair play table. People maybe took the reports as Blackpool were definitely going to be our team and then were replaced by Fulham because they were relegated. Alternatively there's the need to apply for a licence to play European football, was it Pompey that were in a Cup final and knew they couldn't play in Europe because they'd not bothered to apply because of the cost of doing so, and Cardiff obviously because they're Welsh wouldn't be given the FA Cup place as they're not a member of the FA.
Just for the FA Cup, Wigan weren't in Europe in 2006/07 after losing the 2006 League Cup Final to Man U.
As someone who's laid out his cash on four tickets I expect to see a strong side. I agree with DJ the players shouldn't need resting, In fact our strikers need the bleeding practice. I'd like to see something along the following lines; .......................Gulasci (cut knee)................. Mcshambles........Chester......Hobbs..........Dudge Brady.............Cairney............Oli.............Garcia .................McLean................Fryatt.................. Subs: Cooper, Rosser, Harper, Evans, Adebola
I'd like to see us have a go in the cup, we have a winnable tie to get into the next round and i'd hate to see us piss up the chance to progress or have a game with one of the top 10 in the premier league. Mix of first team and reserve team on Saturday and I can see Ipswich doing the same.
I'd like to see a strong side but id also like to see some of the second string/youngsters get a go at Barmby's system. Cracknell (or new 'keeps if all done and dusted) East - Macca - Cooper - Dudgeon Oli - Cairney Garcia - Emerton - Brady Cullen Subs Rosenior Hobbs Mckenna Adebola Simpson Kilbane A. Keeper What date is Simmo back?
My team: Cracknell East Bradley Cooper Dudgeon Harper Cairney Garcia Oli Brady Adebola Basso Hobbs McShane Dawson Evans Emerton Simpson I think Cullen is injured that's why I haven't included him.
Would like a cup run, but don't think this is the year to go on one if we believe in promotion. It takes a massive toll of clubs with thin squads like ours. It happened 1929/30 !! We got to the semi-finals, drew with Arsenal at the old circle 2-2. In the replay lost 1-0 at Highbury. Arsenal went straight to Wembley and won the Cup. We got relegated at the end of the season.
And WBA being streets ahead in our promotion season until the Cup run distracted them and meant we had a chance (slim) of winning the title with 3 or 4 games left. And their squad was a hell of a lot better than ours is in terms of depth. Plus Leeds every year see their promotion chase go to **** as they go on their 3 or 4 game giant killing run, with their fans ****ing over the fact they beat Man U's reserves, completely ignoring they've dropped about 15 or 20 points to other teams in the league over the 3 months from when the draw was made.
And I seem to remember Sheff Utd having 4 or 5 seasons of good FA Cup runs and blowing their chances of promotion every year when Warnock was their manager
