Been a few rumours will be in for Smoggies highly rated defender Rhys Williams. I cant say I have watched anything Boro have had to offer this season, but apparently he is walking this league called the Championship and could easily cope in the Premier.

If he is as good as they say, a nice £3mil bid should be able to do the trick.

Anyone seen him play? What u reckon?

(I have to admit I only read this on F365 this morning but seeing as they are neutral source, I dont dismiss it straight away

    Rhys Williams to Newcastle
It's a rumour that has only recently seriously surfaced, but when one reads that Newcastle are interested in Middlesbrough's classy Aussie, you nod sagely. It seems to fit perfectly - Williams looks too good for Boro and indeed the Championship at the moment, marshalling the best defence in the division with an ease that belies his 23 years. Indeed, it sometimes looks as if he needs a boot applied to his bottom, just because life looks too simple for him in the second tier. And Williams fits with Newcastle's policy of 'buy 'em young, sell 'em expensively' - he's young, talented, can play in defence or midfield, and one suspects he will only increase in value. £3million or so invested now could solve Newcastle's current defensive problems and provide a healthy profit in time.)

Heard the rumour can't see it personally as it would be a silly time to leave Middlesbrough as they could be back in the Premier League next season.

I'm sure the improved air quality could sway him.

And playing infront of people who aren't the opposing bench and fourth official.

I've never seen him but the couple of reports I've seen say he's highly rated.

My Sister's boyfriend is a Smoggy fan from Barnard Castle, can't go the games as he plays footy himself every Saturday and Sunday but I asked him what his mates thought and apparently he's been their best player by far. They said £3m would be a joke and they'd go mental if he went for as little as that!

    Sign a Smoggy? <yikes>
Gather he's good, and Middlesborough must be doing something right this season - they're fourth!

Boro have a good academy so it wouldn't suprise me if he is the business. As did players like Adam Johnson and Downing.

And Catermole. Williams isn't really an academy product though, signed at 18 or 19.

Best centre back in the Championship by far is James Tomkins. Get him in!
