Only I had a very strange dream last night that we beat them one nil and Jii of all people scored the winner. (Stoppage time winner it was too, but I wont bore you with the details!) ..... Yesterday was a surreal day for all involved, nobody in their right mind would have given us a cat in hells chance of a result against one of the richest clubs in the world. (Me included), but how hard did the lads graft from start to finish?? I read an article a few months back and I think it was Toure saying who he thought were the toughest premiership midfielders he'd played against. Gerrard was one, Scholes was another then finally he mentioned "Oh, and that footballer from Sunderland" ..... I bet he knows the name Cattermole now!! What a performance, constantly hustling the City midfield and every time we defended a corner he'd clap his hands, rally the 'troops' and show encouragement to all around him! Quality stuff and long may it continue! Special mention must go to the two midfielders in their makeshift left and right back positions, who I thought got better and better as the game went by! Immense tackle from Gardner towards the end of the second half, he had to get that spot and did! Also Kilgannon, first game in a long long while and he looked calm, assured and even made John O'Shea look good! We rode our luck but that's to be expected against the mighty City, did anyone notice the noise that went round the ground just after half time when they brought Aguero on?? Kind of an "Oh ****, here come the big boys"! (As if the big boys weren't already playing!), the bar saved us twice but we created two well worked opportunities of our own, Mr Bendtner just isn't a natural finisher (but we wont dwell on that today!) All round a superb day with what for me, was one of the best atmospheres in a long long while. People often write about the crowd getting on our players backs during matches but yesterday proves it's a two-way street, all we need to see is our team grafting their bollocks off, putting a shift in and we'll get right behind them ... credit to all who played their part!! I've supported Sunderland long enough to know not to get carried away but there's a proper feel good factor going around the club at the moment, the O'Neil factor is working it's magic!! Doesn't the look on that kids face sum up what football is all about no matter who you support?! please log in to view this image
That pic is superb, yesterdays result just sums up what it is like being an safc supporter. I just hope we can get a result at Wigan now and get some consistency.
I relived THAT goal over and over again as I went to sleep last night with a big smile on my face. I envy all who were at the SoL to witness that performance and what an atmosphere!!! to all of you who were there cheering the lads on.
It was a funny atmosphere yesterday, the Sunderland fans seemed apprehensive for the first 20 mins or so and grew into the game with the effort from your lads on the pitch. It was a bit like a cup tie in many respects, pity we weren't given a few more tickets to make it a proper atmosphere Oneill is a real scalp I think, not many teams would have been organised enough not to buckle under the pressure in the second half so fair play and well done
By the way The stewards How did you manage to get the biggest tossers in the north east all into the same job, bunch of minimum wage nazis
We have the same problem every home game with the stewards. They are proper Bar Stewards of the highest order. Cause loads of un-neccesary bother the jobsworth *****.
Some of the female ones are ok but some of the blokes are complete twats. I remember last season v Fulham, when the third goal went in one **** with a Byker accent couldn't withold his glee. And he's a fat bastard anarl.
