    5-2-3.
    Krul
    -------Colo Willo Simmo
    Raylor--------------------Santon
    ---------Tiote Cabaye
    ----Benny-------------Jonas
    ------------DEMBA

3 CBs gives us a little extra in the way of defensive stability. Simmo has been occasionally sloppy this season but he was more convincing than Perch against Norwich IMO. Given that Raylor is somewhere between a full-back and a winger, a wing-back seems his most logical position (almost like Barton was playing last year in a way), plus it allows Santon the freedom to make runs. Benny and Jonas can both cut inside and terrorise the defence, plus we can make like West Brom did earlier and swap them now and again. Tiote and Cabaye taking on their usual roles, natch. Demba sits in the middle and scores.

Just suddenly sprung up in my mind and I'd thought I'd share. For the record, I know it'll never happen - I think Sammy will get the nod against Man U, but given he played against City earlier in the year and we've established Evra is a weak link (even Obertan destroyed him) who knows?

EDIT: why is formatting such a bitch? x_x

Hint: add [ center] [/center ] around your lineup and you dont need the hyphens.

    No thanks <ok>

    I'd go either:
    Krul
    Simpson Williamson Coloccini Santon
    Tiote Cabaye
    BenArfa Vuckic Jonas
    Ba
    or:
    Krul
    Simpson Williamson Coloccini Santon
    Tiote Cabaye
    Raylor BenArfa Jonas
    Ba
    or:
    Krul
    Simpson Williamson Coloccini Santon
    Jonas Tiote Cabaye BenArfa
    Ba Best

i was thinking about it recently and i decided that i liked the idea but with the squad and injurys we currently have i didn't really like the idea. If we had Saylor fit and a better quality fullback than Simpson and Raylor on oneside

Why? Our problem isn't our formation, it's our tactics.

Playing 5 at the back, especially at home , is really ultra negative tactics .... And on top of that our defence is slowly getting at it's best again even if we shipped 3 at Anfield ..Maybe I'd play with 2 DM's and let Jonas have a free role on both wings ...

    No.

Just really wish Marveaux was fit. The two planks we have need a kick up the arse.

Jonas just needs rest. He's looked tired for weeks yet Pardew keeps playing him for 90 minutes. It's absolutely beyond belief when we have left winger called Ben Arfa. The idea of Santon and him on left is brilliant but I'm beggining to realise we have our own Steve Bruce.

I'm not sure is Alan is aware thet Ben Arfa has had his best game for us on the left wing and he's asking a player that's been out for 1 year through injury to learn a new position let alone get back to his best.

He was suspended for the game against Chelsea, how much rest does he need?

Kind of goes hand in hand, formation...tactics.

No way, definitely not 5 at the back.

I don't think playing Ben Arfa in the hole works tbh. He is more effective on the wing skinning players and cutting inside creating chances. I fail to see how he can have a big impact playing behind the striker especially with our current tactics.

No, that will mean we play hoof ball up to Ba again.

We showed against Bolton that we can play great football when we want to!
