Reported from a number of sources that we are very interested in this player. One of those sources, The Sun, claims that Brendan has lodged a £2 million bid and is offering Lita as a make-weight in the deal!!!!!!!!!

If this is true, has Brendan taken leave of his senses? This is a striker who is hardly prolific in the NPC let alone the PL - somewhere around 21 goals in 91 games. He is not particularly quick, not known as a great header of the ball and, for me, is one of those players you are aware of but is no great shakes.

I mean no disrespect to the lad but he really doesn't quicken the pulse. What does Brendan think he can offer in the PL? As players, I far prefer Lita who does at least have a track record at this level. And the fee of £2 million?????? It seems to me that we do not have the money to splash this sort of a sum on an unproven striker who, at best, is an occasional goal scorer at a lower level. Hell, Danny and Sincs are finding it tough after scoring in the high twenties in ONE season in the PL - more than Church has scored in his entire career. Two million quid? Ye Gods!!!!!

If we have to raid Reading then Kebe would be more of an option for me. At least he has pace and some trickery. To my eyes this sort of signing indicates that Buck is preparing for the Championship next season rather than making a serious effort to stay up. At this stage of his career he just doesn't show the class or the ability to make an impression in the PL for my money.

I am hoping against hope that this is just another one of those silly rumours. Certainly the fee being suggested is silly, or rather it is insane. There has to be better value for money out there than this. A complete non-starter for me. What do you guys think?

This would be a mad, bad transfer, surely? Reminds me a bit of the Luke Moore transfer... Church was highly rated as a youngster but hasn't kicked on yet and it's debatable as to whether he will. He's alright at everything, but we need someone who is excellent at everything IN THE LAST THIRD OF THE FIELD. We need a player who can defend, a bit, but is capable of bridging the gap between our table-football-esque midfield and Danny Graham. I really hope Buck doesn't see him as the answer for our "trequartista" position (a lá Modric at Spurs) as I don't think Church is good enough.

Obviously, I could be proven wrong and the guy could look class, but £2mil?! As Ivor said, that would be actually mad.

Not convinced, as everyone has said not prolific and not better than any of our current squad.

church was good a few seasons ago with plenty of clubs looking at him, I am not convinced on him today and £2 million with Lita thrown in is utter madness imo

Church is currently on form, and finding the back of the net, he's got 6 goals for Reading so far, and unlucky not to have got more (Keeper Saves), that said, I don't see him as an improvement on what we have, I'd love to have Emnes though, rated him the first time I saw him in a Swans shirt on loan, last season, moved and looked a tad like Jason Scotland, younger version of course, why doesn't Rodgers look at Emnes, far better player in my view, and I think that Emnes will bag about 20 goals this season in the championship!..............

Dobbie got caught in possession so many times today I lost count because he wants too long on the ball. On the plus side, when he gets the ball he does immediately turn to face goal. <ok>

What do you expect, he's been on the bench all season, and for every ball he got caught with, he more than made up for when he looked at goal, for his first game back he was good, I seem to remember Gower giving the ball away, again!..................

Nope, you are not alone on the Dobbie issue, musty. Check my posts where I have been clamouring for his inclusion for some time. He needs games under his belt to get match sharpness and I hope that Buck will see that he gets them. A match fit Dobbie with his directness could be a potent and a different weapon for us. I've always rated the guy.

Trequartista position then think of Totti for Roma and Italy...Playmaker kind of position. I would love Church with us as he is good young player who will find the back of the net...switch him for Moore then definitely...as for with Lita, then i would be sceptical unless a striker or two is lined up in January transfer window

I'd agree I'd prefer him to Moore (who did excellently, I thought, yesterday) but surely there's a better option for that kind of money?

I don't know because 2million doesn't get you much these days. If we could get Rhodes for that then I suppose that's one better option

Nicky Maynard is available for about a million, maybe 1.5, and I'd much rather him.

Surely we wouldn't get him that cheap? If so then I'd think it was worth a punt
