Looking at last night it tells me we are not far off being a strong side. Tactics were wrong but at times we played some good stuff.

However with the current regime of MA and Llambias I don't see us building a squad but trimming a squad which is a shame because I really feel we can achieve what Spurs have in a 2-3 years. By that I mean turning down big offers for our best players and having quality in all areas of the field.

We have quality players who have the ability to play very good football but are unable to show their talents because of the ridiculous hoofball tactics Pardew insists on. Pardew is a great man manager and IMO with the right backing could take us to the next level but I don't feel with the current project of making a profit will get us anywhere other than continueous mid table finishes.

My question is, do you feel that under this regime we will ever reach the top 6?

For god heavens sake man! our aim was to stay in the division and top ten at the absolute height of anyones expectations this season. Mike Ashley dioesn't want to splash the cash needed to compete for those positions. I'm more than happy to accept mediocrity but in 4 more years I'm hoping our aim is different.

What mrtiote said, not now, now top ten, cement a top half finish, in next 2-3 seasons, which means anyways from 8-10. after that push on top 7. and progress. can;t do a totenham. the growth has been phenomenal. but i do see other clubs declining in next few years i.e villa, everton.

Not with this board, as last night proved we are a million miles away, they would never rely on players like Simpson, Obertan and Ryan Taylor wouldn't be a regular starter which he has been this year.

I mean in 2-3 years time. If we can build a squad we can but our policy of making a profit by selling our best players will get us nowhere.

Ashley will see being so far up the table as a surplus of talent and will no doubt look to cash in on one or two.

In answer to the original question, never under Ashley.

Honestly! You were in the Championship a couple of seasons ago, are having a fantastic season thus far (despite a few disappointing results of late). As many have said a top half finish is a bonus. Where has all the negativity on the Newcastle board in general come from? A top 6 team worthy of being in the top 6 isn't going to put together in the second season back in the PL. As a squad yours seems to be progressing very well, enjoy it. Steady progress is better as it can be sustained.

To be fair, we haven't actually done that yet with a single player. With the exception of Routledge, all the players we've sold have been ones who've requested to go, or in Barton's case did a lot of stupid things that meant he couldn't stay at the club (whether he did that on purpose or not is unknown to everyone except Barton).

We've still made a lot of progress so far this year. Okay, the recent run of results looks poor, but if it was spread out over the games we've played rather than in one big lump it wouldn't look so bad. 5 losses in 19 games is fairly respectable for a club at our level. Arsenal have lost just as many games, and Chelsea have lost just one fewer than we have. The fact that our defence was so mutilated for some of them is something important to remember as well.

We're unlikely to break the top 4 this season, and maybe not even the top 6 or 7, but we are moving forward.

How about achieve our aim of top 10 this season and move on from there?

  15. Not in the next couple of years, It will take a lot of money and a top class manager.

The top 6 teams in the PL are very very strong. All we can hope for is finishing 7th for the next couple of seasons and perhaps Europa League.

  16. I personally think top 8 is a better aim. The only team below us that is around our level IMO is Stoke as they have decent squad depth and are a strong team when on form.

Below 8th I can't see them finishing above us, but that being said, if we keep getting all these crappy injuries It could **** us up.

I think top 8 should be our aim considering the fact that we have 30pts going into new year.

The negativity is understandable to some extent. Our recent form has been dire, and it's easy to look just at that and think we're terrible.

In reality, we're still 7th. For a team that's in its second season after promotion, who sold a large part of the 'core' of the previous seasons squad, and who many people tipped for relegation, that's pretty good.
Even if we lose to Man Utd and Stoke go above us we're still doing well.

<applause> Seriously. What is the matter with some people on here? We're having a great season especially considering where we were just two seasons ago.

Is it a realisation that your earlier form was impossible to maintain? You have some good players, some less so, you have points on the board and every team has bad patches, losing games shouldn't come as a surprise.
