For the final time in 2011 it's all hands to the pump to find some winners. Racing comes from Newbury, Warwick, Uttoxeter, Lingfield, Punchestown (including Mikael D'haguenet) and Tramore. Here my 5 selections: 1.30 Newbury Destroyer Deployed - took his unbeaten record to the Cheltenham bumper and found only Cheltenian too good. Will have to be at his best to see off All The Aces but that one may have been flattered by his proximity to Prospect Wells last time out and Destroyer Deployed makes more appeal at the prices. 2.05 Newbury Walkon (NAP) - jumped like a stag on his chasing debut to easily outpoint Zaynar and should improve for that outing. He will need to in order to get the better of For Non Stop, who pushed Al Ferof all the way at Sandown, but Alan King's gelding looks destined for the very top table over fences. 3.05 Newbury Fingal Bay - quite simply the best staying novice hurdler in training. Should take this comfortably en route to the Albert Bartlett at the festival - I'm convinced that's the race he will go for and 5/1 for that is still generally available. Has speed, stamina and a resolute attitude to go with his assured hurdling. Already looks a festival banker. 3.40 Newbury First In The Queue - one of 3 Nicky Henderson runners in the race and finally gets a surface with plenty of give after some decent efforts on good or better going. Although still only a 4YO he has had plenty of racing (25 career starts) and his best performance on the flat with Sylvester Kirk came on soft at Newbury where he absolutely sluiced up. After being BD on hurdles debut he won his second race (on Good/Soft) and yet in 7 races since then has not seen going on the softer side of good, including 2 runs at the Galway Festival. His comeback run for Henderson over hurdles on GOOD at Cheltenham (off a mark of 125) was full of promise, finishing a head 2nd to Bally Legend and in front of Edgardo Sol. I'm convinced that he will run a massive race tomorrow having come on for his run at Cheltenham and with more juice in the ground and could cause a minor surprise at very tasty odds. 3.50 Warwick Swing Bowler - this Galileo filly won her only race (a bumper at Wincanton in May) in very impressive fashion and although her rivals that day look akin to the proverbial trees she looks to have a future in the winter game and is taken to score from some other promising looking individuals in what should be an informative bumper.
I think Dunraven Storm is a fantastic each way bet in the last at Newbury at 14-1 (Hills) . This horse has won first time out in the two previous years demonstrating he is not one that needs a run and goes well fresh. He was a top prospect last year at one point eventually finishing lame at Cheltenham. They have taken their time to bring him back and i expect him to go very close tomorrow and then be kept fresh until Cheltenham as he flopped when run, too quickly in my opinion, at 1-2 on in his final race before Cheltenham last year. This is a good horse, not top class but a good horse who should be able to get very well involved in the finish tomorrow at a huge price.
I have to oppose Bluesky9 and Oddy regarding the 3-40 Newbury. Good I hear you say! This looks nailed on for Lifestyle - IF this race doesn't come too soon for him. Just 4 days since his last (winning) run, and although he couldn't have won any easier - he still had to run the race. However - I have a personal "system" if you can call it that, in that I never desert a horse that has won for me, and will back it until it DOES lose. So for that reason Reebok's rubles will be on UBI ACE Others for me at Newbury will be Walkon on in the 2.10 and Quotica De Poyans in the 2.35 The 3.05 ought to be a Fingal Bay stroll, but what does anyone make of Henderson's pitching in of Top of the Range into this grade 1 event? I have this horse on my Tracker, but either NH has lost the plot, or TOTR is pulling up trees at home! I really like the horse but surely he can't make this jump in class? At Warwick in the 2.20 I like Inga Bird who will surely confirm form with Glen's Boy and looks like a late improver. Good luck all
Dont wont to put the mockers on reebok but ive been given Ubiace as a cert !!!!!!!!!!!!! had it the last 2 times out and its reported to be improving all the time, this comes from the yard, Walfords have bought a couple of horses from same breeder of Dappers Dancer who me and the Don have a touch in be lucky
I had a long, hard look at this fella as he looked very progressive early last season before finding Cue Card too good before disappointing afterwards. I do think he could be one to follow in handicaps this season but this is a hot contest and he would have to run right up to his very best to get involved. A cracking renewal with quality right the way through the field.

Peter Walwyn - Recognition well deserved: http://www.racingpost.com/news/hors...n-honoured-for-services-to-racing/969660/top/ Hoping Tarateeno can plough through the mud at Warwick in the 13:10 there, it's one of Cyc's slogs, and how. Don't think he liked the big fences too much (Tarateeno I mean, not Cyc) so maybe a return to the smaller obstacles will make a difference; it sometimes does. Going now heavy from good-to-soft yesterday, so guess they've had a fair old whack of rain in the Midlands? In closing, sincere apologies to Reebok and Oddy for totally screwing-up their bet on the final race at Haydock yesterday. It was careless and stupid of me to talk about some outsider's place possibilities (Sacre Toi has still not been located, by the way; popped-off to have a noggin with Sir Alex I guess?). Einen Guten Rutsch to everyone on the forum (a good slide-in to the New Year!). And GL today, of course!
Nice too see that you've gone for one near the minimum in the weights Swanny. I usually work my way up from the bottom when looking into these races. Hope you nail it mate. P.S. Another thing I like is to have miles in the legs this time in, yours has that too.
Since Dunraven Storm is now a non runner i cannot get too interested in anything, so have just had a yankee, all at best odds. CUE CARD @ 3/1 14:05 Newbury UBI ACE @ 5/1 15:40 Newbury GRIFFIN POINT @ 4/1 14:15 LINGFIELD AVENGING ACE @ 15/8 12:10 UTTOXETER Good luck to everyone on the last day of the year and may the next be as good as the last with more of Frankel and Big Bucks confirming that at the same time we may well have the best Flat and National hunt horse seen for a generation.
