We need someone who can pick out the best three or four lower league players, mix them with two or three academy youngsters and four or five experienced pros and voila. Not rocket science.

I remember a time not so long ago when I was shocked that we had paid a fee for a player, Darren Currie for £250,000 back in Jan 04 or 05. I remember finding out from other fans travelling down to the QPR game we won 4-2 at Loftus Road, one of the best away games I've been to. It seemed at the time as if we were signing Lionel Messi and the mere fact that we had spent any money on a transfer fee signalled we were a big step closer to recovering from administration.

Bar the first month or two I've not had any of that kind of boyish excitement since ME took over and for that reason alone I wish he had never come in, even if the alternative would have been us dropping in to league one much like Plymouth.

I would liken our situation to Football Manager when you cheat and give yourself unlimited funds, it's fun for the first transfer period bringing in whichever players you please but when you win promotion with the best players in europe there's not the same satisfaction and the club becomes a circus.

We need to completely change our philosopy back to what it used to be, nurturing youth and bringing in players from lower leagues to prove themself at a higher level. But it's not something we can do overnight, we need to slowly reduce the amount of Prem rejects and loanees we rely on to get to a point where we have a team which doesn't need a major overhaul every transfer window. If we were to ditch all of the oaps and loanees and rely soley on youth and lower league players like Cresswell we would be lacking the valuable experience that Bowyer and co offer, we just need a bit of balance.

Once we are at that stage, which IMO should be next summer, we should be able to mount a serious promotion challenge as the more I watch this league the more I realise it is filled with crap, unbalanced sides. Even Southampton, West Hame, Boro, etc, none of them look like they are deserving of winning the league and the last team that did deserve the title was Newcastle.

Most pundits say that this is the most competetive league where anyone can beat anyone but in reality it's just full of crap poorly managed teams. I actually agree with Roy Keane when he said 'any idiot can get a side promoted from this league', the problem is we didn't have an idiot in charge in Roy Keane, we had an absolute moronic ******!

Great post Svendust, although I would say from what I have seen Southampton are a class act but in general it is a competitive league but not high class competition just a lot of mediocre teams cancelling each other out

    Haha brilliant

Yes I agree most teams are very average in this league, which is why I think if we can get some stability at the club over the next few years we may just eventually get things right. However I think Southampton are one of the best teams I've seen ever in this league, not only do they look good as a team unit but they have some outstanding individual players. Like Norwich one thing I like about them is that they have generally a balanced team with players who look comfortable in their positions.

Not to mention we can also construct coherent sentences with at least a vague nod to grammatical correctness (cue the postmodernist PC cretins…).

I wouldn't dream of accusing Leeds60 of following the demented warblings of Derrida, Foucault and company.

I would think, with the mish-mash of upper and lower case letters, the mis-spellings and incorrect punctuation, he would probably think you were paying him a compliment!
