Remember in the day, Ashley in the Bigg Market? Splashing the cash. Then after Keegan it all went a bit tits. Lambarse then revealed in his Chronicle "send me your questions and I will choose the least problematic ones" interview that Ashley was upset at the slagging he got so decided to keep away.

Do you think we'll see his face in the fans end again or indeed at the bar standing mega rounds or was that just a PR stunt which massively backfired ?

I think Ashley probably is a canny bloke in that respect and 'one of the lads'. Just look at how he acted in that Sports Direct staff party.

He royally ****ed up the management of the club though, and I suspect that he was probably never used to being hated in any particular way, so it got to him quite a bit.

I still maintain that Ashley probably isn't so bad, even when it comes to spending. Just look at how much cash he spent early on in his ownership. However, he's handed responsibilities to Llambias now and is going to follow his lead as he's fearful of making anymore mistakes.

I was never a fan of that whole 'one of the fans' thing. Always came across as embarrasing and desperate.

Because nobs like MrTiote who take football one step too far would jump him if he was in Newcastle. Have to agree with Geordie Gashead in the sense that I was never a fan of the one of the fans thing. Very desprate.

    Agreed. Desperate and attention-seeking, IMO.

The timing was unfortunate. The only manager he really backed was Allardyce and he assembled the squad that got us relegated! If he invested in the same way now he'd get a much better return, especially with our scouting system.

No I don't think its realistic to expect him back buying beers, and I wouldn't want one off the fat oaf. Personally I will never forgive him for the shame he and his cronies brought on the club. His sole focus is now on his business turning a profit year on year. The bonusfor us is that to achieve that, he has to run the club well becuase football is a tough game to make a profit. Most of the owners just accept they are throwing good money away when they get involved. You have to give credit where its due, regardless of how dislikeable the two ****ers are, the club is progressing nicely at present. Hopefully he can get his money back, **** off, and we can get our 2nd proper owners/person running the club in my lifetime!

I don't think Ashley gives a flying **** if he is well liked or not, far too thick skinned to worry about nasty comments in his direction.

When drinking with the fans, etc. he was being far too obsequious, (there's that word again), imo & even the media made several comments about it being embarrassing.

The fact that that his initial lust to be well liked went belly up will not bother him too much.

My sentiments entirely WP. He's turned this club into total ridicule at times, a knacker of the highest order.
