It doesn't make financial sense to do that. There's no guarantee that the free defenders will be any good and help us achieve a higher position in the league. The higher we finish, the more money we get, which is what MA ultimately wants.

In recent windows there is no evidence to suggest that MA is doing anything wrong. We've got a few free players, bought a few players, sold players who weren't willing to commit to the club or causing hassle. We only sold Carroll because of the ridiculous fee. Your pessimism has no substance apart from the naivety from the early years of Ashley.

I agree, however the fact some people can't even grasp we buy players to sell for higher values is ridiculous. The club even tells them for heavens sake. We aim to sell our players and get cheap replacements.

It's only happened with Carroll really. As Amnesiac says, in recent windows Ashley has done well. I'm happy with buying players on the cheap, better than spending 10mil on one player, 15mil on another player, and then finding ourselves in a **** financial position.

Selling Carroll was ultimately a masterstroke. Who else have we sold recently for big money and bought a cheaper replacement for?

    What??

Llambias is an employee of Ashley who, as owner, calls the shots.

It's like blaming the piano for a bum note, rather than the pianist!!

I believe that Ashley wants the best for Ashley. Sometimes that co-incides with what is best for the club, but if there is a conflict between what is best for the club and what is best for Ashley, I think we have a fair idea which side of the arguement will win!

Do you know how a business actually works?

Ashley has hired Llambias as managing director to run the club. An owner hires a MD so he doesn't have to make any decisions, because the MD calls the shots.

Ashley would not hire a managing director and then undo Llambias' authority by overturning the decisions he makes. I'm a very firm believer that the decisions and the strategies the club is making is entirely down to Llambias.

We replaced Carroll with Ba, so a second replacement wasnt considered as important as a CB now that Saylor's out for the season. Well that would make sense but the conspiracy theorists have beaten me to this thread it seems...

Of course we will now get his little speech about how he is a realist not a pessimist and that he is always proven to be right.

I never resort to offending people like you. The fact is we do buy players with the intention of selling for higher values. The club even tells you for goodness sake. I bet at least 2 of our first team players go next month. I'm not saying we won't bring anyone in but if people think our policy will be as miraclulous as the last window everytime then they are mistaken.

Bury your head in the sand if you choose but stop being so offensive just because I don't!

Erm, yes you do, you even made a thread offending someone. We're all aware of the 5 year plan, but why would we sell someone in january when we have a chance of achieving a high position which will benefit Ashley more? It's not financially viable, but I guess the business side of it has escaped you.

    I'll call you what I like <ok>

Unless they are handicapped or gay of course!

Try giving humble opinions and don't claim to be making unquestionable pronouncements and people may give you an easier time. As it stands you come over as an arrogant prick. The fact that you haven't got a provable record of being any more correct than the rest of us backs this up.

I wouldn't be so concerned about another star striker if our wingers and midfielders were goalscoring threats. Not to say I'm criticising them, but Jonas, Obertan, Tiote and co. aren't goalscorers, and right now not even Cabaye is creating the chances he was earlier in the season. So unless we were to bring a better RW in, I really think we need another striker - and if we can't afford another striker, I don't see us splashing the cash for a winger.

I'm hoping this is just a ploy to avoid clubs hiking up their prices. If you know someone is desperate for something, you can ask more of them, but if we don't appear to be in dire need we might stand more chance of getting a player cheaper.
