Should we give Raylor a chance at RM when Santon gets back?

  1. We are all getting a bit sick of Ober. He has fantastic pace and a little bit of skill but he very rarely produces any quality final balls.

I personally think Raylor should be given a chance at RM. He's not a great defender, but a good midfielder IMO. He can cross the ball fantastically and he pops up with the odd goal, from free kicks or from open play. When he's not in the team we very rarely see a good corner going into the box. Cabaye's free kicks on goal are canny, but Raylor puts in much more threatening ones, whether he be shooting on goal or just whipping it in.

I'd like to see Raylor when he has the freedom to stay up the pitch and whip in as many balls as possible.

    ------------------Ba------------------

    Jonas------------HBA----------------Raylor

    -----------Tiote--------Cabaye------

    Santon----Colo--------Willo----------Simpson

    ------------------Krul------------------

I'm not sick of Obertan, he's shown a lot of promise, his pace is crucial to our new style of play and he set up a goal yesterday and tormented the full back. The guy's 22 on a 5 year deal, it's not a short term investment.

  4. Average at what?

Obertan is quicker than Raylor, that is the only quality he possesses over Raylor. Raylor is a better crosses, better passer, can put in a decent tackle and can actually shoot and score goals. We also could use his free kicks, which are almost always quality.

  6. I'm not saying we should give up on him, but why not play Raylor, see how it works out, and then use Ober as an impact sub?

Ober would be class as an impact player IMO.

I think he could be a great player one day, but I reckon Sammy could be also. Doesn't mean he should start every game does it?

We should give someone else a chance there and if they prove more effective, they should get the games.

Raylor's lack of pace is huge, we play through our wingers a lot on the counter and rely on pace. Obertan is not 19, he needs games now.

Erm flair? The ability to go past players?

  10. Cabaye's dead ball deliveries aren't in the same league as Raylor's. It's not just about striking the ball on goal, it's about whipping it in well. No one does it like Raylor. Our corners are almost awful without Raylor.

We need someone on the wing that can cross, Ober very rarely puts a good ball into the box. It's not that hard to beat Robinson on the wing.

I personally think Ober would be better coming on as an impact player, and running against tired legs.

If we did drop Obertan I would move Jonas to RM and put Sammy on the left. Both try and beat their man and cause problems.

  12. Raylor is no slower than Barton is. Ober has massive pace but he doesn't beat players nearly often enough, and when he does get past them, he either puts a **** ball in or cuts back and tries to skin someone and fails.

I'm not saying he should be dropped for good, but I think we should try something different. If it doesn't work then we will switch back to Ober.

Of all the days to say this, why say it the day after Obertan has put in a good performance and got an assist?

  14. Good performance? No, a good spell in the game. Yes. He was awful for 65 minutes, and had a good 5-6 mins when we scored our two goals, then he came off.

Must be honest I think Obertan would work best as an impact sub, but I'm not sure Raylor is the answer.

  16. He's gotten two assists so far.

The two fullbacks he was against when he got them, Wilkinson and Robinson.

I think the lad has potential, and I want to see him get more games, but all I'm saying is that we should give someone else a chance for a game or two. It's not like I'm saying we should get rid of him is it?

Well not many will agree with me, but I thought even when we were poor, he was our most threatening player.

That's exactly the point, we dont play long balls into the box anymore with Barton swinging it to a target man, we play with pace on the wings. Raylor's not a long term answer on the wing, so why play him there for 2 games? If he was as good as you seem to think in midfield he wouldnt be a reserve full back.

I have taken time out from watching Hook to come on here and agree with Tash.

I would play Raylor above Obermong every time. Not because Raylor is amazing, but because he offers more than Obermong who is just an expensive Routledge in my humble opinion.

However I doubt AP will drop the mong so I'm raising a drink to a quick recovery for Marv!

Ps, how sexy is That fairy in Hook?

  20. Never said Raylor was the long term answer. The people commenting on this don't seem to grasp the fact that I'm not saying Ober should be dropped long term or Raylor Is the answer. I'm saying we should just try something different. Just try it.

If we don't try it we'll never know, and if it doesn't work we can easily change it.

Ober IMO would be much more effective against tired legs. He'd beat them and be a pain in the arse much more so when they're tired and he's full of juice.

Imagine the panic in the opposition when they witness the change of pace on that side from Raylor to Ober? They wont know what to do.

Remember when Ranger used to come on as an impact player? We'd take off Shola, and play Ranger, and It used to panic the best of defences. Ober I think could do the same.
