    OK here goes...

My mum practically kicked me out of the house before I even hit 13, and I’ve never even met my dad. My only friend until I was 10 was the bastard next door who was always beating the crap out of me and telling me I wasn’t worth anything. It’s not even like I had a choice, the town only had something like 9 people living in it, I kid you not. My entire adolescence was just moving around from place to place trying to get along with people who didn’t even want me.
You think that’s the worst? My only friend was an Asian guy in his thirties or something who only kept me around because he thought I could help him get laid. The only perk was that I also got to hang around with this cute ginger chick. She was flat as a pancake, sure, but damn, she was really hot. She must have been a sadist or something ’cause she always took pleasure in hitting me.
But dear god, the bane of my existence was this adult couple that I could NOT seem to avoid. You know those types of couples that are absolutely sickening, like they wear matching outfits and finish each other’s sentences? Yeah, they were so ****ing creepy, and they had a cat which was at least twice as annoying as they were. I swear this thing would never shut up.
Like I said, I ended up moving from town to town, getting into fights with other kids my age, even adults from time to time.
The only thing that kept me going was my dream to become a Pokémon master.

I finished the game thirty seconds later being surrounded by 13-14 year old boys. Great.
But the most alarming thing about the game was after the fisticuffs that had gone on behind my back, a fan/parent of one team had crossed over the barrier and shouted at me (and I quote directly) "I'm gonna knock his f**king head off if he does that again". At a 13-14 year old boy. What a lovely team.

Hey, I'm 19, and I'm currently living in Leeds, and studying Philosophy at Leeds University. I was born and raised in Newcastle, I lived in Jesmond for 10 years, then moved out to Little Benton (right next to where the Newcastle training ground is, and on the same estate as the entrance to the Newcastle Academy.) I've been a pretty big Newcastle fan ever since 1998, when my dad took me to see Newcastle vs Juventus in a pre-season friendly. Since then I've made an effort to get to 3-5 games a season, so I reckon I'm somewhere around the 60 mark for home matches attended. (Obviously this figure has dropped even lower this season, and I've only been to the 1 game so far, that being the West Ham game, though I'm back for a month in April so I'm gonna try and get along to a few then.) I also went to see us play in Ipswich once when I was down there visiting family, and to this date is my only away game.

Aye, it is pretty much - women are tighter than back home though as most are Southern, just have to put a little more effort in though!
All depends who he befriends in first year I suppose - I met a mixture of those who'd go out loads but still work hard. Although I do know some proper student types who never go out, although I rarely see them & I know a few who went out too much and ****ed their degrees up.
If he's going to Leeds Uni tell him to try for James Baillie halls, they're expensive but well designed with small blocks of about ten flats so everyone gets to know everyone - most my friends in first year lived there.
I went to Opal 1 for Leeds Met and it was too big/impersonal - didn't know the people in the flat next door let alone on my entire floor (not that I made friends with many at my halls - mainly from my course, their friends who also came to Leeds & nights out), but the flat was amazing.

Also if he does go, insist to go on the house hunting with him (used to be a goodwill January 15 set date by Unipol onwards, but with the recession all the letting agents now ignore it so early January or December time) as most the houses in the student areas of Headingley, Burley & Hyde Park are ****eholes and he wont know what to watch out for just yet (tends to only come with experience!)

I feel a bit weird typing this as it's an internet forum - stranger danger and all that <laugh>, but if there's ever a match we both want to go too, you're welcome to pinch a lift like. Also there's normally a few of my mates down here but are from a mix of Washy, Durham & Newcastle who often will go to watch the match in the Skyrack or the Original Oak pubs like if you're ever struggling to watch games with people (having said that we mainly stream since we're skint, but if it's on Sky we'll tend to go to one of those pubs)!

Haha she sounds similar to my mam!
It's funny she couldn't give a toss when I'm down in Leeds now, but if I go back home she still demands a text from me every hour on a night out as if I was still 16/17/18 <laugh>!
