I think the Suarez 8 match ban (maybe more) may have p*ssed all over this 'deal' if it was ever discussed.

tbh, I can see Carroll coming back here one day, but not in Jan, and not in exchange for Tiote

Aside from a swap deal for Torres, which is never really on the cards, this is the best deal for Tiote imaginable. If he has to leave, what's the point getting 30 million that probably won't all be spent. 20 million plus a striker who has scored the goals for us in the past is a cracking deal. A return to a slightly more direct style of play wouldn't be the end of the world.

Can't see it happening. Carroll is clearly not on good terms with the board, considering the leak he gave to the Fanzine talking about how he was 'forced out' - which is seen as bad etiquette for a player leaving.

Carroll also has little reason to return - he'd likely be lambasted by some sections of the crowd and the core of the squad he worked so well with (Nolan, Barton etc.) have all left. Also, him moving would likely signal a move towards Stoke-esque 'lump it' football which I ****ing hope isn't the case.

Would also chance a guess that Carroll now has significantly higher wages which might be an issue. And I couldn't see Liverpool offering to pay part of them considering the heavy loss they've already taken on him.

Would be a good deal. Tiote(this season) wouldn't be a huge loss, Guthrie has been better. Carroll is better than our strikers except Ba.

This would be an awful deal for us. We dont need Carroll we need a striker to play off Ba with pace. Also, to lose Tiote would just be yet another statement of the ambition this board has for the club. It would be a massive backward step.

Interesting read - so you'd be happy to have Carroll back? **** that's surprising considering the **** you've been giving him... I guess it sums up how fickle football is in general.

To be honest - I don't think this is true as we have plenty of options for DM. However, I'd quite like the opportunity to give Carroll back! Full refund if we kept the receipt? <whistle>

I'm pretty sure those of us who'd take Carroll back are in the minority.

If Carroll came back on loan with a hefty chunk of his wages being paid by Liverpool, I'd have no objection with that. It's hardly like our front line players (apart from Ba, of course) are setting the league alight, and we wouldn't be spending much for a, when on form, great striker.

    Wont happen:

    - Carroll is out of form and would demand £80k per week, so we wouldnt buy him at the end of the loan
    - Liverpool need Carroll for when Suarez is banned
    - If we were to sell Tiote he would have better offers (Chelsea, most likely)
    - The "Carroll back to Newcastle" story is just incredibly lazy journalism, similar to "Tiote to Chelsea". There's no basis for it, just fabricated by the press

    Very true.

Although I have a feeling a striker may be coming to Liverpool in Jan as we're clearly lacking goals - so perhaps point 2 could be argued.

Taking off my black and white specs, Tiote is not worth £20m! He's been **** so far this season, his passing is very average and he's a liability to get booked almost every match (although must be said he's cutting back).
Have faith in Abeid if Tiote were to leave.

If Barton was still here then maybe I'd take him back but our style of playing has changed a lot since he's left and wouldn't suit us. I see him moving to the mackems though ...

If you look at his stats (like distance covered, headers won etc ...) he's certainly worth more than 20 M. Of course he had a slow start to the season but he has improved. And although he may not be too much of a goal threat, he's still a great player. It's not a surprise that we've never lost when both Cabaye and Tiote have played !!!! <party>

Tiote will leave if the money is right, both the transfer fee for us and the wages for him.

It's been proven that Liverpool are prepared to pay bigger wages than us, so why wouldn't anybody move for a pay rise?

The prospect of Andy Carroll coming back would be good in my eyes - it really hasn't caught fire for him at Liverpool in this last year and he's not featured for England either.

He maybe needs to come home and rediscover his passion for the game - he's looked devoid of any inspiration playing in a Liverpool shirt and I can't criticise him for that! <ok>

The whole thing sounds unlikely in the extreme, but with football these days you just never know...

Not sure I agree with above.
    - Not convinced he wouldn't take a pay cut to go back.
    - Thats asuming we do not go out and buy another striker which is more than likely.
    - Why would Tioti have better offers? We have the cash if thats is what you're refering to.
    - I agree in principle, but it doesnt mean it wouldnt happen. Couldn't imagine Owen going to United, or Torres to Chelsea. Also possible that Torres would come back despite the way he shat on us. You just never know.

    - I dont think he would come back, he either asked to leave and fell out with Pardew, or was "forced out" and would refuse to play for Ashley. Not to mention he doesnt sit well with a large percentage of the fanbase
    - Fair point, but would you give up on Carroll already?
    - Chelsea (was just an example) would probably trump your wage offer and do have CL football as well
    - I know there could be some substance to it, I just think there are too many stumbling blocks.
