Brendan says they went back on their agreed fee and now "it is out of our hands". Sounds like that's the end of that. Can't see us matching Everton or Liverpool. Gutted http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11671/7393796/Rodgers-reveals-Donnelly-blow
I don't get it - if a deal is agreed, it's agreed... right? It shouldn't matter if another team bids higher, because our bid has already been agreed? If we haven't made Cliftonville sign any papers proving their agreement to our deal, then I can start to see how we didn't manage to make our signings in the summer. If we've only got a verbal agreement with them, then surely they are within their right to sell to the highest bidder, even if it's morally wrong to us. Once the deal is 'agreed', there should be preliminary papers signed to tie them into the agreement - if we haven't done that then more fool us really. But to be honest, I have know idea on what verbal/written contracts consist of, so I'm probably barking completely up the wrong tree here...
Jenkins must get Buck this player , no excuses . It's moments like this that managers think of there own future & you can tell Rodgers wanted this guy IMO .
I'm torn on this. Half of me wants Huw to tell them to do one, any club who is willing to renege on an agreement is hardly worth dealing with. On the other hand, the kid does look good. See what happens I guess, but if we've been gazumped then you can't say you didn't see it happening once or twice...
The Everton bid was " Considerably Higher " & Cliftonville want the matter " Over by Boxing Day " . If we are to do something , it must be done quickly but I fear this one might pass us by . The only chance we have to win a bidding war , is one like this . I say start the bidding for ( As you all like to say ) " One for the Gaffer " !!
If we didn't get an understanding in writing then it's amateur hour at the Liberty. Of course, if the kid doesn't want to sign or his agent cannot come to terms with us that's another matter. But, our deal with the club should have been locked-in in writing - it doesn't have to be complicated, it doesn't have to be "war and peace" document. But if we let this slip because of that I am pissed off.
We have a track record of amateurish contract negotiations. When will we wise up? As Sam Goldwyn said, "a verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on". I don't know the fine detail of this deal but it's about time we stopped being so naive in these matters. Once Cliftonville accepted our offer, Huw should have had a basic contract/form of agreement signed there and then. If they weren't prepared to sign it, fair enough but I wonder if this was initially done on a handshake. If that was the case, green as grass springs to mind.
What really irritates me is that Cliftonville were praising Swansea for their conduct in the matter and then they do the dirty to Swansea,Mind you when i heard that Everton and Liverpool joined the chase for Donnelly i kind of expected that we would not be first choice.
Rumour has it, and I stress rumour, that Swansea would be Rory's preferred option. That being the case, is £200k too much to spend on a player that the likes of Everton and Liverpool have got the hots for? We do have that sort of money so let's test their resolve by matching their bids. No harm done if we fail and it's still good business if he turns out to be the gem that everyone thinks he is.
i've got a feeling the deal with come off for the Swans...It doesn't usualy, but the link, I recon he wants to come here.
Rory wants to join us but his team has now gone back on their word to us as everton has offered £50k more than us and they said its business and everton upped their bid on ours......We should offer £200k and top theirs as we were the first to go after the lad and he will get to play in the premiership far quicker than everton. his club should have not gone back on their word and the very least they can do is allow us to match everton's bid and let the lad decide where his future lays
If we didn't get anything in writing, which I suspect we didn't, then we deserve to be out bidden by Everton, but let's get real here, we've bid £100,000+, and Everton £140,0000, not exactly big money bids, and if we don't match the Everton bid, then we don't really deserve the boy, as these bids are peanuts for both Swansea and Everton in the grand scheme of things! If I was Huw, I'd match Everton's bid just for the fun of it!............ please log in to view this image
Realistically, this young lad would have a better chance of getting first team experience sooner with us. We could use him, does Liverpool really need him? Even after today's result I can't see him fitting in with their rotation. Everton do need a new striker but an untried, although promising young lad? I could see him spending a year in the reserves there with their squad. I can understand Huw being reluctant to up the bid, he's taking a chance, it's an investment that might not pay off but if Rory Donnelly takes a look at our other recent young loanees like Caulker and Fabio Borini, yes I know Rory will not be a loanee before you start, but those young lads were given the chance straight away with the Swans. Fabio is now on loan, sat on a bench each game cultivating the piles on his ass. What match experience is he getting now and I bet he is wishing he was back in Swansea playing every game and scoring goals in the Premiership. Caulker is getting regular 1st team starts and is developing into an accomplished young defender. He will go back to Spurs at the end of the season a better player for having spent time with the Swans gaining experience, learning and playing in the Premiership, that's why 'Arry sent him here and 'Arry is no mug. It would be great if he could stay. I am sure the agents have jumped on this young lad and the tills are going keerching and of course he will be drawn to the big names of Liverpool and Everton, especially coming from Northern Ireland but does he want to sit, or play?
Unfortunately, Harry really rates Caulker so there is no chance of him staying with us. I'd love him to stay. Mind you, he will have to learn not to get out-jumped by 5'8" strikers at set pieces.
Think Rodgers has impressed the lad, and he gets to play the proper way with us, here's to hearing the good news soon!.......... please log in to view this image
The proper way, Phil? And what would that be? At the moment that seems to consist of running your b******s off up front in the hope that the midfield will provide one decent chance in 90 minutes. Oh, and coming back to help the defence at every set piece. If he had a word with Danny Graham he might change his mind about coming here. Sorry to be downbeat but at the moment I'm extremely disillusioned as reality is beginning to set in. Quite frankly, I believe if we stick with this midfield of ours, we are going only one way. At the moment the description, weak, sterile, lightweight with a creative void comes to mind.
Now your starting to get me worried ivor , it's not like you to be so downbeat . . Thought Agustien was doing the job till called upon to defend . I think Agustien could be the midfield answer as the minutes churn on . I do think Allen & Sinclair need a bit of time on the bench to reflect ... Cheers up !
