Norwich come into the game in 9th place on 21 points, while Spurs are in 3rd place on 35 points. This will be the 76th time the two teams have met. Norwich City were founded in 1902 by three former Norwich Church of England Young Men's Society players. The club lost their amateur status in 1905 and joined the Southern League shortly afterwards. The first meeting between Spurs and Norwich came in April 1906 in the Southern League and the East Anglian club won 4-1 at White Hart Lane. The reverse fixture at Newmarket Road was won by Spurs 3-0. Vivian Woodward scored three goals for Spurs against Norwich that season. The clubs met for two further seasons in the Southern League, resulting in two wins for Norwich, a win for Spurs and a drawn match. Spurs joined the Football League for season 1908-09 and the next meeting with Norwich came in the old second round (today's fourth round) of the FA Cup in January 1915 at "The Nest" in Rosary Road, resulting in a 3-2 win for the Canaries. Four friendlies were played between 1916 and 1925 with Spurs winning two games, Norwich one and one drawn game. The first Football League meeting between the two clubs came in the Second Division in December 1935 with Spurs winning 2-1 at the Lane, while Norwich won the reverse fixture 1-0 in April 1936 at their new home in Carrow Road. The clubs met for two further seasons in the Southern League, resulting in two wins for Norwich, a win for Spurs and a drawn match. The clubs met for a further three seasons in Division Two resulting in four wins for Spurs and two for Norwich. During World War Two, Spurs & Norwich played two matches in the Football League South. An FA Cup fifth round match in February 1959 ended in a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane and Norwich pulled-off a 'giant killing' act by beating Spurs 1-0 in the replay at Carrow Road. The first meeting in the Top Flight of English Football came in October 1972 when a Martin Chivers goal at Carrow Road wasn't enough to prevent a 2-1 win for Norwich. The clubs contested the 1973 Football League Cup Final at Wembley and a Ralph Coates goal was enough to bring the silverware to White Hart Lane. Martin Chivers scored a brace in Tottenham's 3-1 win against Norwich in the reverse First Division fixture at the Lane a week later. The clubs met regularly in Division One from season 1973-74 to 1991-92 with honours being generally even. Both Spurs and Norwich were founder members of the Premier League in 1992-93, but the Canaries lost their top flight status after the 1994-95 season and returned for one season in 2004-05. Spurs won 5 of the 8 Premier League matches played with Norwich winning once and two drawn games. The most recent match between the clubs came in a pre-season friendly at Carrow Road in July 2008 with Darren Bent scoring four goals in a 5-1 Spurs win. During the summer, Norwich City signed Spurs defender Kyle Naughton on a season's loan. Overall, Spurs have won 33, Norwich have won 22 and 20 of the 75 matches between the two clubs have been drawn. please log in to view this image Full History of Tottenham Hotspur v Norwich City Matches 1906-2011 please log in to view this image They Played for Spurs & Norwich.... Great post 6061! Will be interesting to see how spurs line up for this game, with all our injuries, I hope JD is back coz without Lennon or VDV we really need him. would also like to see walker play right midfield, like how bale started as a left back but now hes an amazing winger. Also unlikely King will play again Hopefully this team will play Freidel Kaboul Gallas King/Bassong BAE Walker Modric Parker Bale Defoe Adebayor
Got to say I want Kaboul in the centre of defence as Norwich score their goals from headers. If we really want Walker as a RW then let's put Corluka at RB otherwise Falque on the right of midfield.
I think Corluka would be too slow, their left mid Pilkington is seriously quick, I'd keep Walker right back with Pienaar right mid.
Hope Kaboul plays but he's struggling a bit so lets see. It's a case of how we adapt with our injuries on the right.Think Harrys going to have to do some rotating, atleast it's a chance for some of the younger/squad players.
More excellent stuff, 6061. Where did you hear that Kaboul's struggling, Pat? As B&W says, it's almost essential that he starts for us, especially as King's unlikely to play again so soon. I'd rest/bench Parker for this one and bring in Kranjcar and Pienaar. Friedel; Walker, Kaboul, King/Gallas, Assou-Ekotto; Pienaar, Sandro, Modric, Bale; Kranjcar; Adebayor.
BEEB PNP 0920 FOOTBALL: Injuries are beginning to become a concern for Spurs as they prepare for Tuesday night's visit to Norwich. In addition to Rafael van der Vaart being sidelined with a hamstring problem, Jermain Defoe and Younes Kaboul face tests on similar injuries and Ledley King is unlikely to play, having completed two games in five days. Aaron Lennon (hamstring), Michael Dawson (Achilles) and Tom Huddlestone (ankle) are also out, of course.
Ah, crap. Bassong in an aerial duel? Let's hope not. I wonder who Norwich are going to put up against Bale? Naughton's not allowed to play.
I nearly missed it PNP coz I thought they were just telling us abot VdV.Hope it's not much, could also be why we didn't use him last night. Naughton's got away with the suspension anyway.Strange that this game will count as his game out.
Never knew Crouch was such a handsome lad in his youth. What I want to know is why's Gerry Adams on his left?
Does it? That sounds wrong, doesn't it? Shouldn't it have to be a game that he's eligible to play in?
Yep, we need Kaboul back for this one. Corluka seems to be injured, but anyway wasn't on the bench. Freidel Walker Kaboul Gallas Rose Modric Parker Sandro Bale Defoe Adebayor Give Benny a rest
Hey GH10, I really dont want to see modric out wide again for this game. With all respect to norwich, this isn't a game where we need parker AND sandro, as we will be doing most of the attacking, so i think we need parker or sandro to parker modric in the middle. Fingers crossed we get defoe and kabould back, we need them
...with a young William Hague on his right, and Tim Sherwood is a morph of Michael Carrick and a Chris Waddle haircut.
I need to watch some more, but it looks to me since Sandro has joined Parker, there seems less space for Modric. When it was just Parker, Modric would often pick up deep then burst forward arriving in the opponents half at pace, haven't seen so much of that the last couple games. Admittedly for a half he was stuffed out wide in a different role, but he hasn't been as influential like say in the 6 wins on the bounce run. Just something I've picked up on.
Pat- Kaboul apparently has a hamstring strain. Can anyone tell me why have so many players doing hamstrings all at the same time? Is it the cold weather? Oops nearly forgot- great work as usual 6061!
Hi SY81, nor do I I wasn't thinking of a 'standard 4-4-2'. But I've read something on another site that's made me rethink my belief in Sandro, Parker and Modric. Namely they don't score enough goals between them. I'd never considered that before, and it's a mindset changer for me.
Fair comments NSS, I've had a change of mind on the need for Sandro, Parker and Modric, because of their lack of goals. I wonder what Harry will do? Players like Niko, Townsend probably offer more goal threat than Sandro, for example. It's a tricky one. Sandro, Parker and Modric are all quality players, but it looks like we can't get them all in at the same time.
Modric needs to go into the middle definitely! Parker or sandro need to sit out this one. Why is townsend not making the bench - he is a good option imo
