We have debated at length, the chanting at the Rennes game and the hoisting of the banner at last Thursday's night game. It should easily be agreed by all that Celtic Management and Board have taken a stronger tougher line than was the usual before. I have been told that members of the GB were called "bastards" in Italy by P.Lawell. I feel that the very supporters who were most vocal supporters of Neil Lennon were thanked , in a funny way by questioning the ability of the banner scribes to spell. Neil, don't forget the fans watching matches on TV are not heard singing your name where ever Celtic play. I think the reason for the tougher line is our new Chairman. We never thought much of Reid but he never made a show of us in all his time, as this new man has in his few weeks. I am not sure Celtic fans, despite his urgings are interested in following Scotland fans and their reputation. Another nation with the best reputation for following and supporting a National team is the Republic of Ireland. A Mr John Delaney holds the same post with FAI as P Lawell holds with Celtic. Unlike Lawell, who is reported to regard some of the Celtic fans as bastards, Mr Delaney has quite a different approach. Mr Delaney mingles with the Irish fans in the various pubs in the cities they are staying. Mr Delaney regularly buys them drinks and sources, through his staff additional tickets and helps to sort out other problems. Not exactly what Mr Lawell does, is it any wonder the Irish fans are so well behaved. Yes they sing Irish songs and they sing Republican songs, but everyone enjoys it and there are no complaints. I think back in the summer I posted very passionately that the fans, the GB needs to be talked with and agreement reached, unfortunately fans, who go to Celtic Park once a season or less, argued me down, sneered at me etc. I will tell you now the board and Management might win this round, but do not be surprised if the fans, who may not support what some others have done but at the same time don't want them named and shamed and made a laughing stock don't strike back. The fans have the final say and may act around season renewal time if the board and management continue on the same road.
Funny you should say that, both Delaney and Lawwell are ****s. I could have handled this better than Lawwell and for a lot cheaper.
I never liked Delaney, but at least he is making an effort. I am worried about our new Chairman, the fans don't know him and then he wants us to behave like the tartan army. I'm not wearing a kilt.
Lawwell tells folk they aint fans, then Bankier tells us we drew with a side joint top of la liga..... Delaney acted very distastefully carrying on like Paul Merson with his boozed up gestures after having just overseen lay offs at the FAI. It left a sour taste in the mouth.
Scotland fans spit on their managers and boo the national anthem of small nations Why the **** would I want to behave like that
I think some of the stuff superhoops has been saying on here about Lawell is a disgrace. What if he comes on here and reads those comments? Do you think he'll be able to do his job to the best of his ability? Surely those negative comments will be detrimental to his performance. Some Celtic fan; he shouldn't be so negative about the man in charge,
Exactly. It's hardly surprising Lawell hasn't always performed to the peak of his abilities when so-called fans sneer at him and give such mindless abuse. On his day he's unplayable in the boardroom - the fans just need to get behing him.
I thought for a short while I had achieved something Dev posted that he had nothing to say. I was sooooooooooo delighted the idiot finally had gave up. Unfortunately, not been a man of his word, he posted again. Ciaran and other Irish posters, I don't like Delaney either, when he was appointed first I thought it was a terrible decision. That doesn't matter to me now as I find that by mingling with the Irish supporters he helps to build up a good atmosphere. What he does is miles better than the behaviour of Lawell and his attitude to Celtic fans. Despite the sneers and smart alec remarks I am confident that Celtic would have a happier away support if Lawell took a leaf out of Delaney's book. Of course if you have never travelled to a far away land for the first time to a Celtic match then help would not be appreciated and you would not know whether what Delaney does is beneficial or not.
Thing is, loads of clubs slag off their chief exec but to be fair the average fan doesn't know what other pressures these people are under. Sitting on the fence, on the one hand we slag Lawell off for not splashing the cash and yet we mock Rangers for being skint.
