NB is keen on Homer Jay, according to a few brief comments i've seen in the press and if a McLean sale can significantly contribute towards the signing of a more rounded striker like Billy Sharpe then that definitely makes sense if a good enough bid comes in. Personally i'd like to see him stay, I like the lad and think that his overall contribution to the team is worth more credit than he gets from a lot of City fans
PARANOIA! PARANOIA!! PARANOIA!!! PARANOIA!!!!!!!!!! Yesterday Rosenior was going, before that Stewart, before that Chester and today it's McClean. As far as I understand the only fact amongst all of this is that NB has said he has been assured no one is leaving. Why can't everyone just appreciate we have a good squad of players and therefore the lazy press will link them to every desperate manager in the country? Stop panicking like a bunch of Christmas turkeys.
Who precisely would come in if we sold him for between £500k and £850k, and offer the same versatility, at the same price?
I'd miss him for his work rate, but if we can get a better all round striker such as Sharp then it can't be a bad deal. I like Mclean and his work ethic, but his first touch drove me mad against Millwall and although he's scored more goals this season he's still managed to mess up a few. Interestig what could happen with Simpson, Barmby may know how to get the best out of him and with Stewart coming back and Millwall struggling Simpson may fancy coming back up here for a promotion challenge and with a new manager in charge.
To be fair both Stewart and Simpson linked up well last Xmas time. They destroyed the Blades that day expecially in the first half.
They looked good V Brizzle and still effective together against Reading without scoring. Unfotunately for Simpson the Fryatt and Mclean signings came at just the wrong time, we'd stated to see the best of him at that point.
Can we adopt the same approach as we've done with the Chester/Stewart to Leicester rumours? McLean is currently in the first team for the 4th placed side, who with 12 points from the last 6 are also probably the form side. He's given no suggestion that he's unhappy playing for us. Unless there's 2 players brought in ahead of him in January why is he going to want to leave us for a worse placed team who've been sliding down the table recently?
With Simpson I think it will come down to whether he has ambitions to play in the EPL or not, that's if NB thinks he is good enough. With City there is a much better chance of that happening than at Millwall, but if he doesn't have that desire, then probably he will go back to London where he obviously feels more at home.
I'd rather put the money towards a higher quality player, that's the idea when you sell! I think Simpson would suit NB's style of play and could be pretty decent with the right service. If he gets as many chances as Fryatt then he'll be scoring goals for fun when in form.
yes they did. it was a shame. i cannot see NB letting Mclean leave unless Brighton offered really stupid money. Even though Mclean does not score many goals his value to the team is far far greater than most City fans give him credit for. As for work rate is there a better forward anywhere else ? If it aint broke then dont fix it.
I'd be sorry to see him go, we won't find many prepared to work as hard as him- great guy and great pro
Don't know about the vicar of dibley, but most of the football reporting in the edition we get is about Bognor Regis Town (aka the 'Rocks' FFS!) who play in the Ryman division one (south), which says it all all about the standard. The Chi Observer makes the HDF look like........ well a newspaper.
Don't think anyone is panicking it's simply a news article that has been posted. Would you prefer for this "Message Board" to be completely empty?
I'm sure the Allams will see the selling of any of our first XI as a threat to the potential premiership money, no one will leave, especially not the names mentioned the last few days
I'm sure we wont be happy with making a loss on McLean however he's definitely not worth a seven figure sum therefore I wouldn't expect Brighton to offer anything around what we'd be looking for if they are genuinely interested. McLean, to put it harshly, is a poor player at this level who can't cut it. I can't see him improving over the next couple of years or his price rising, so I'd cash in on him now personally. Better that than keep paying him £300,000 every year.
