I was listening to Fivelive this morning and some football pundits (could not identify which ones) were discussing how good were City. One compared them to the Arsenal invincibles, another to United's best team of the last 7 years -the one with Ronaldo/Rooney. All agreed that they were indisputably the best team in the country by a long distance. Do you agree too? YET United is only 2 points behind. With all the injuries United's challenge may fall off but some players may come back when the going gets tough at the end of the season. Fascinating season!!
They haven't even won anything yet (bar 1 FA Cup). It's not like the media to get so far ahead of themselves....
How good are Citeh - ask TheHarshTruth - he thinks they're still in the CL ( see the YOU thread ) However in short City are looking good this season and I just can't see the blip in form coming which all us United fans are coming for.
City are playing extremely well, they've gelled as a team, but I don't think they have the experience that'll carry em through the rough patches when their form drops or key player like Silva and Company are out injured.
If they are in this position come Feb/March I'll be a bit more worried. The fact that we have to play Arsenal,Chelsea,Spurs and City away next year is a bit worrying as well.
They're very good in the subjective playing great football and sweeping teams aside kind of way. Too early to say if they will be good at bringing home trophies and winning consistently when decisions, injuries etc are going against them kind of way. But like KE says, they will probably turn out to be good at that as well. Comparisons with the 99 and 08 Utd teams and the invincibles are a bit premature, particularly given City's failure in the CL and the (slim) chance they will mess up the PL. But then those three teams are always looked at through slightly rose tinted glasses imo. People forget that Utd's 99 team only won the league by one point and finished with 79 points, one less than last season's "average" team. Likewise, the 'invincibles' got dumped out the CC by Middlesbrough and got absolutely schooled by Inter at home in the CL, before getting knocked out by Ranieri's Chelsea. Even our 08 team got doubled by City and couldn't get past Pompey in the FA Cup. So I think City can probably be compared to those teams in terms of ability and performances, although they still need to do more to be compared in terms of results and success, which ultimately is what history remembers.
I personally think City will slip up at some point and lose a couple of points so it will up to us to capitalise. I think this season, we have been great away from home but them matches will be tough.
I still hold firm that city will slip up and united will win the PL but they're a very good team. United and City are well ahead of the other teams in the league in terms of quality. Imagine if city hadn't been backed by oil, would the bookies be paying out on united winning the league by now?
They remind me of Chelsea in the early days of Mourinho. Powerful team and squad and expected to win every match. I think it will come down to United having to beat them at the Etihad. I cannot see any other team beating them.
I have not seen them very often but to compare htem to the United team with Ronaldo is bollocks, they are not that good. United won the league and European cup (beating Messi and Barca en route). City may well win the league but still not in this class, infact the medias portrayal of them as a great team comes out of the universal hatred of United. Lets see what they achiever before making such bold statements- and we know they are already out of Europe.
They are devastatingly amazing however you guys will probably still win the league. They have better players BUT you have Fergie who is easily an equaliser.
With 6 - 1 to their name, Rufflad, waht does that make you? Only joking! I'm off soon, so all the best
Liverpool fans should know, trouncing us at OT during the best season you're having for a while doensn't make your season.
It makes it a one off Red. When Southampton beat us 6-3 did that make them world beaters? No, did it ****. I'd like to see more than one FA cup in 27 years before I start pouring the plaudits on them. So far they have won precisely jack ****.
It is a good season in that respect, definately. City are just slapped together with possibly more coming in, they will get better and will replace the likes of Barry eventually as well. They are currently the best team in the league but I would think they'd find it very hard to contain winker and at his peak n Co, I would say the teams were a match but could not say which is better really. Right now, man for man, and on paper and in points and goals scored, they are just better even though they are really only starting to become a team proper so I think next year they will be even stronger, I think United have more of a chance to win the league this year than they will next year unless they invest
