i dont think the manager at international level matters as much as people think

look at the managers who have won the world cup and euros
most of them are not elite and do nothing at club level

its the man management side they thrive with but also you need your nation to have a golden generation at the right time
I agree, that’s what Southgate had , if I had to choose a new manager I’d go Howe, I think he would have similar traits . But I repeat I hope Tuchel proves me wrong and we don’t need a new manager, but not holding my breath

I think the difference are expectations raised, after 2014- 2016 I’ve never felt so low in England, I watched 2018 with no hope, and Southgate’s era raised my hopes again and I enjoyed watching them, that’s why I defend him to the death , but I accept his limitations in big games and to win we maybe needed a change , somebody to finish his job , and this fraud is taking us backwards , I really thought we might win something soon but am feeling closer to 2016 right now , maybe the key is to watch with no hope .

In those days we would have lost this game today. The likes of Foden, Palmer, Alexander-Arnold etc all would have been on the pitch, stinking it out and we would have been moaning about taking players from the big clubs instead of the form players.

We haven’t clicked but it’s not quite that level of depression yet. I completely agree Southgate should still be in charge and we’d be a lot better if he was, but the hordes of plastic **** fans we are plagued with in this nation pressured him away from the role, so this is what we’ve got.

It’s still a good team and they’re not rolling over to die, regardless of how well it’s clicking (or not) on the pitch.

i think its difficult to keep the same momentum for so many tournaments without winning in southgates case
sometimes you need a fresh face
tournaments are such fine margins, the best teams dont always win
southgate was very close to winning two trophies for england

this was the first ever round of 32 in a world cup
but how many world cups has a team looked incredible and people think, ohh theyre a favourite
and then crash out?

its better to peak later than early

I can’t agree, these are the games Sir Gaz pissed, the odd blip ( in 2024) , but we put 4 past Senegal, 6 past Panama , 6 past Iran … we had no issues on the whole beating the teams we should have most time , it was the elite teams we slipped up against .

I agree when Palmer equalised against Spain we had a period and might have scored again .
This tournament has better teams so I'd consider getting to the semi final success.

We haven't beaten a top 10 team at the World Cup finals since 4 v 2

I did say we would be better if Southgate was still in charge. This team is not like the horrors of the 20 odd years before 2018.

Does it have our 1990 World Cup semi v Germany and the 1996 Euro Semi final against Germany in it ?

No but it does have our 5-1 qualifying win in it.

Q. England scored 5 goals, Germany scored 1 goal. The diameter of the ball was 22cm and the goal line was 12cm. What was the total linear distance that the ball travelled over the goal line during the match?
