Alright lads, I need some help. I've got to do a geography project on Kielder Water Reservoir. I can do it all, but I also need to include opinions of people who may be affected by it. I know most of you are from near there, so what are your opinions on it?

Was it a waste of money, was it a pointless excercise? What about tourism in the area? Scenery destroyed? etcetcetc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I've never heard of it.......

But in developments like this I think Environmental Impacts are given a high priority (through Environmental Impact Assessments), but where is the Human Impact Assessment?

I went with my family there 5 years ago. There was a pretty cool mini golf course and cool bridge.

Are you at Uni or School?
I had to do Kielder Reservoir for part of my Geog GCSE

I hate it, the amount of midgeys is ridiculous.

And a waste of money, it is not. How many times have the North East had a hose pipe ban?

That's right never in my life time! Boit time these southerns invested in reseviors rather than just banning hose pipes.....

Only been there as a kid, seemed a nice place. It has giant moths though, and for that it should be burnt to the ground.

Ha, so there's never been problems with water shortages so they build a reservoir!

Only been the one time and although the scenery must have been affected quite a bit by all the redevelopment, nature seems to have taken it's course and put things back together again quite nicely.

There's a beach at Kielder covered in flat round stones that are perfect for skimming. For that, it's ok in my book.

Been there a few times, and there's a lot of outdoorsy-type tourist stuff there now. It was designed to provide water for all the industrial users along tyneside, but it was completed just after things started going downhill. It's got a load of really good mountain bike trails around it and is used a lot by walkers, and the area is still stunning. The reservoir itself has a couple of sailing/outdoor centres next to it. Pretty sure it's never broken even, but then there's never been water shortages either!

Good for tourism... Has spawned a new regional Marathon... Great for the community at xmas as they do Santa stuff. Overall good and means we dont have to rely on the cockneys for water...

I was a member of the sailing club for like 5 years.

There are always races every Sunday, there is a windsurfing club.

There is an annual Regata in August when the Yacht club members meet up with the Sailing Club Members.

There was a tragic accident there a few years ago, when a poor lass drowned :(
