Not quite a failed coup.
I did step down, and
@Dick Plumb1 took over as moderator.
That created the conditions for what Royston had been promising;
Himself and three or four pals - including he claimed some old former members - to return and restore the good old days.
To take Not606 Charlton back to a more vibrant, more laddish time when everything was better.
Something Royston's un-named pals were
only willing to do (he said) If I stepped down.
So the Sheriff got his wish - a new moderator more sympathetic to the way that he wanted things.
And most importantly, somebody who was
not me - the person he wholly blamed for years of decline on this forum.
Then

nothing happened.
No return of a posse of old pals. No revitalisation of Not606 Charlton. No big upswing in posting and new football related conversations.
So around a week later Royston & our new mod departed, fetching up again on ITTV.
And I, having told BRB that I was stepping down, had to humbly ask him to re-instate me.
Thus embarrassing the both of us.
The Sheriff is a great Charlton fan.
As I have said many times I greatly admire the dedication he has shown to the Club for decades. Going home and away, even during the years of exile.
He's welcome here any time.
But we don't need another round of power plays and coups. Life's too short and stressful enough already.
