Were you asking for GE when Tory leaders left office.

No idea, it happened so many times. I probably was wanting one to get the most corrupt government in decades out of power as quick as possible.

I wouldn't have been wanting a GE if it improved the chances of an opposition coming into power who's leader had been given a £5m bribe on the off chance they get in, or want to do the following:

Scrap the Human Rights Act 1998 and leave the ECHR
Scrap the Equality Act 2010
Scrap the Employment Rights Act 2025 and the Renters Rights Act

You seem as if you afraid that Burnham might actually be good and your Reform/Restore boys will suffer as a result.
I am afraid for Burnham, the same as I was for starmer, who I voted for his party at the last general election, because the extremist in the party smell blood and could force through policies the wreck the country.
Why do assume that anyone against your beloved (can do no wrong) labour is reform voters, you must be scared silly most of the time nowadays

All of those rights need scrapping or at least modified into what they were intended for

I couldn't give a **** about Reform, Reform and it's indoctrinated followers seem to be bothered about Labour and Andy Burnham however. Farage already calling for GE, which he never did whilst the Tories musical chairs went through 5 PM's during their disastrous tenure. Wonder why?

Did the Labour Party call for gen elections when tories changed leader, i think they did as all opposition parties do.

The single and only reason the Parliamentary Labour Party is getting rid of Starmer and going for Burnham is because they know the best bet is they'll lose the next election if they don't. It's panic after the local elections and purely politician self-interest,which may not, even then,be successful. It has little to do with what's good for the country.
A long running theme from MP's and Govt. over at least the last 30 years in my opinion. None of them are trustworthy or deserving of the position they hold.

Starmer is 'bland' but given the financial circumstances of the country and the poor external issues, wars, Trump etc. I just don't get the hatred for him. Johnson was a buffoon, Truss a totally bonkers idiot.
Unless we thought that Starmer could wave a magic wand and everything would immediately get better, when this didn't happen lots of folk turned against him. Egged on by Fa gash.

Surprisingly enough, I don't think Burnham has a magic wand either.

All of this talk about needing a general election if you change party leader while you are in office made me look back at how things have happened in the past.

I was surprised that the last PM elected to that post and subsequently voted out of the post was Ted Heath, 1970 to 1974.

Before that it was Attlee 1945 to 1950.

Looking further back I think only Ramsey McDonald, in the short lived Labour minority government in the 1920’s did it between the wars.

Not going to happen, it is akin to a football club volunteering to be relegated if they change managers.

It’s ok because people re already dismantling Burnham! Pointing out his errors in the past etc.

In every general election I have voted for the party with the manifesto which best suited me. Since I was old enough to vote.

Whilst that was labour in my younger days, less so recently. That will continue to be the same going forward.

And I can guarantee it will never be Farage!

If a PM needs to go we need to get the place stable asap for the sake of the country. If the party cant provide that it becomes a different story

Only going to be one winner, no point annoying Burnham. Political opportunists the lot of them.

He is 1/50 to be the next Labour leader. I can see this happening very quickly which is good for the party and the country.

Worth noting there has been very little immediate reaction in the markets with the resignation announcement. Initially the pound strengthened and UK borrowing costs dropped.

Its early days but compare that to the previous volatile changes and it suggests that investors aren't too worried about who will replace him.
