Apparently we are looking at Etta Eyong from Levante. His release clause is 40 million euros and would be worth every penny, seen loads of him, still raw at times but on his day is quality. Put it this way, Barça were contemplating signing him this time lady year, that tells you all you need to know, they considered him good enough to replace Lewandowski!!
God I hope this happens but somehow doubt it!!
Totally agree, looks head and shoulders above anything we'd normally be associated with

Bologna apparently showing interest in Philogene.Probably like Hutchinson too lightweight for the PL so if we can make a decent profit I wouldn't be sorry if we sold him.

Agree with the sentiment BigAl, I've yet to be impressed with Philogene's overall performance, and is indeed lightweight.

I don’t think Hutchinson was lightweight, infact for his size I think he was pretty strong and tenacious, his problem was McKenna in the PL played him centrally and he had awful decision making.

Everything resets. Whatever we thought of players’ potential or place in the squad is up in the air and I think players have more power than the club in this situation, because if they don’t want to play and give their all then our asset rapidly devalues anyway. I don’t think he will go for much of a profit unless there is a bidding war.

Pope mentioned today. He would be a massive signing.

I realise this is is unlikely but if we could add serious quality without disrupting the defence, retain Clarke and Philogene and add top players in most of these positions instead of having a high turnover of Championship players we would give ourselves a chance:

Goalkeeper Pope
Holding midfield option
A superstar #10 like Enciso
A talisman #9 Delap to return?

Agree about those possible signings plus a CB with some experience and physical presence.

Interesting comments from Mark Ashton saying that aiming to finish 4th bottom is defeatist, and we shouldn’t be ‘little old Ipswich’. I get that, but if we do finish 4th bottom and survive I’d see that as a good outcome. Plenty of time to improve in the succeeding seasons where we wouldn’t be the promoted team and favourites to go straight down.

But that’s not how we’ve got to where we are and that’s what’s frustrating me. We invested in a playing style and set of principles. It took many months for players to get used to passing around the back but look how it paid off. We should be forgetting all about the table and bring in a manager with a philosophy and sign players that can execute it. When you do that, you can be a Cape Verde or a Bournemouth.

One caveat - the philosophy has to be solid - ie not Southampton’s.
