Havertz getting a Brace for Germany, Gyokeres scoring for Sweden...

Just a threat to keep tabs on the Arsenal boys during this WC.

Havertz was superb.
Watched him closely and his movement into space to open things up was class.
Then that pace he showed , the composure and the finish - that capped it off.
He got MOTM.

I dd not watch the Sweden game, but I saw Gyokeres's assist - lovely link up play to set off Isak.
His goal was also very well taken.

Funny even Spain treating Merino like an Impact sub .

The fact Raya isn't starting for them is ridiculous.

Hincapie got absolutely rinsed by Yan Diomande last night - wasn't pretty viewing!

To be fair though, he had no support and there were big gaps vacated by Ecuador's midfield.

Trossard played the full game vs Egypt tonight in a 1-1 draw. Probably a fair result.

Was a standard Trossard performance - drifted in and out, had some moments where he looked dangerous, had other moments where he wasn't offering much.

World Cup is always a low level of football at this stage.
True its one of the things thats annoying to me about these tournaments - all the casuals who don't watch football tune in for a tournament where the quality of games and teams is lesser than we get in the UCL or even EPL.

Interestingly I think Cape Verde just exposed how to beat this Spain team. They did not deal with a low block well at all.

CL group stages is also pretty weak.
I knew with 100% certainty that we'd qualified for the knockout stages before a ball was kicked in the group. That makes the group a worthless pursuit other than making money. The quality of the teams is poor.

EPL is the strongest competition in the world - hardest to win.
The other European leagues are getting weaker and thing lie the WC and UCL are just cup competitions with a weak initial group stage.

Not watched any of this world cup yet, not been inspired to and doesn't sound like I'm missing much. No matches stand out as being particularly appealing, no jeopardy as most teams go through anyway. Might pick it up at the 1/4 final stage. At the moment it's about appealing as international friendly breaks.

The first game that was actually interesting to watch was the Cape Verde / Spain game - not because of the quality or even entertainment, but because it REALLY meant something to one team, a huge underdog that fought and played their hearts out. That's real football.
International football in general means nothing these days and the players are un-relatable and too rich to care.
I do think international football is dying a slow death.

Hmm - I don't know. I think they were actually very profligate in front of goal (and the GK made some good saves).

They penetrated the Cape Verde defence multiple times, they were just wasteful.

27 shots, and only 7 on target, yet an xG of 2.29 whereas Cape Verde had an xG of 0.29 would show this.

I wouldn't read too much into this one game just yet, as it's the first fixture. I fully expect Spain (and most of the big nations) to improve as the tournament goes on.

I do think a better team playing the way Cape Verde did would be able to stifle Spain.
They keep the ball well and move it around midfield and out wide, but they struggled to create really clear cut chances against a very poor side.
Did you see how many times Cape Verde broke and got into great positions only for the last pass to be absolutely dreadful.
A better team sitting back and hitting Spain on the break could well take them down.

I hope so, because I find Spain to be THE most boring team in the world.

Well that was ominous. France weren't great but Mbappes finishing is outrageous honestly.

Not sure why Saliba has to play on the RHS of defence. I would keep him. on his natural side and just play Upamecano on the other side.

Both sides of Mbappe in one game.
Absolute **** in every part of the game in the first half. Embarrassingly bad.
Absolute brilliance in the second half.

Yep I agree - he's lazy, arrogant, petulant but man he strikes the ball soo well and he has outrageous natural pace.

I would take him at Arsenal though...

His pace is electric.
I wouldn't take him - too inconsistent and I would be too worried about his attitude when things are not going so well.

The thing is he scores soo many goals. International, UCL, Liga 1, La Liga... and I think it would be the same in the EPL. I would get annoyed by him but he's probably the only player I think could get us 30+ goals a season from the left wing.

Lots of people cant stand this guy but I do think he would solve all our attacking problems in fact I would take him over Haaland... I do think we can afford one 'luxury' player in the squad (Not that I think Arteta would sign him)

To be fair, HOA did say we were investigating a secret superstar attacker that no-one knew about yet. Maybe it's Mbappe who's had enough at Real and is never gonna love playing under Jose. Though to be fair, does he really think playing under Arteta would be any different.
