Because he's an arrogant berk. Now he's had the chastening experience at Rangers he may have lost some of that arrogance but I doubt it. But even though he failed badly with Saints in the PL, his style still got him the Rangers job. He could easily had amended his tactics if he wanted to. He didn't because he wanted to be the next Guardiola. His career aspirations came way before the best interests of the club. ****.
Rangers is a step down though, so it clearly didnt work. He got that job off the back of getting us promoted, not because he played passing football at one of the worst PL sides ever.

If he would have kept us up he would be looking at a way better job than Rangers.

There is absolutely 0 chance he would have preferred we lose and play well rather than scrap wins. He was just extremely wrong in how he thought we could get results.

Nah it isn't. It's an extremely big club with a massive fanbase. In no way is Rangers a step down from Saints. The pressure of that job is immense.

Bigger club, yes, just like Celtic are. But there is a reason we are able to have the pick of any celtic or rangers player and indeed manager. Any PL club is a step up for celtic and rangers, purely due to finances. It isnt even close either.

Kompany is the only example i can think of where a manager has been relegated and then got a better job.

Martin was becoming a laughing stock, there is no a chance he refused to make us more competitive because he somehow thought it would further his career - because everyone knows full well results are the only thing that do that.

Im not saying to forgive him his role in us being the 2nd worst PL side ever, but it wasn't some weird intentional act like people are making out. Why is it so hard to believe that he is just crap?
His biggest problem is that he will not change his playing style whatever the cost. If it is isn't working change the system it's not rocket science. His stubborness to change will cost him in the end.
It wasn’t that he was crap, it’s that he simply refused to change. It was within his power to change the style, ie don’t kick it about at the back when being pressed, but he didn’t. You can’t tell me he had no idea how to improve results?!

I’m not saying he deliberately got us relegated, but his refusal to change amounted to the same thing. His number one priority was his trademark playing style, not results.
