Good Morning. It's Wednesday 17th June, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Swap deal makes perfect sense in Shea Charles pursuit

Social media lit up yesterday with speculation that Leeds Utd are targeting Southampton midfielder Shea Charles, but are we being told the full story? Behind the headline lies a far more intriguing suggestion surrounding a potential swap deal that would benefit both clubs significantly.

The Saints are desperate to land a proven goal scorer this summer, having lacked cutting edge in their promotion push last season. (Finn Azaz, their leading scorer last time out) managed just eleven goals; if they are serious about getting back to the top flight, they need firepower, and that's where Leeds can help! Daniel Farke wants to reinforce his midfield and possesses an established goal scorer at Championship level, that he is looking to move on.

Southampton have long admired Joel Piroe, with interest dating back to Russell Martin's tenure at St Mary's. His impressive haul of 19 goals during Leeds' title-winning 24/25 makes him an attractive proposition to any second tier club with ambitions of promotion. He could very well make the difference between reaching the play-offs or automatic promotion for Tonda Eckert's side next season. Meanwhile, Charles, strong and physical at 6' 2, and can operate in three or four positions would be right down Daniel Farke's street. The timing couldn't be better.

Southampton value Charles at around £30m, but given their current position, they can't afford to play hard-ball. Proven goal-scorers, even at Championship level don't grow on trees. Rangers, Middlesbrough, Stoke and Birmingham City are all interested in the Dutchman, which could give the Whites an advantage. Despite having just twelve months left on his contract, Leeds are still expecting a return of £12m-£15m. A swap deal, with Leeds shelling out £5m, would make perfect sense for all involved.

Leeds explore landmark legal action against Leicester City over PSR breaches

Leeds United are actively exploring legal avenues to sue Leicester City for substantial financial compensation, following a landmark regulatory precedent. Reported by The Times yesterday, the Elland Road hierarchy are meticulously examining how Leicester's repeated Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) non-compliance compromised Leeds across two separate, crucial campaigns. The move has been directly triggered by a monumental ruling where Burnley successfully secured almost £40 million in damages from Everton, having successfully argued they would have avoided Premier League relegation in 2022 if the Toffee's PSR point deductions had been applied in the season the breach occurred, rather than being delayed.

Applying this same precedent, Leeds are building their case around two critical periods. Firstly, the 2022–23 Premier League season saw both Leeds and Leicester relegated. Leeds believe that had Leicester been punished in real-time for their financial breaches during that period, the resulting points deduction would have altered the final standings, thereby keeping Leeds in the top flight. Secondly, the following campaign (23/24) presents another convincing argument. While Leicester secured automatic promotion back to the top flight, Leeds narrowly missed out, eventually losing in the play-offs.

Leicester were recently hit with a six-point deduction for breaking spending limits during that specific 2023–24 Championship-winning season. This provides Leeds with grounds to contest they were sporting contenders against an unfairly funded rival, directly impacting their own promotion aspirations and the substantial financial benefits that come with top-tier football. The potential ramifications of Leeds claim are immense, not only for the substantial sums of compensation being sought but also for setting a new benchmark in football governance!

Morning all

I did pose the question, could we not pursue Leicester after the landmark case.

Transfer market value Shea Charles at £15m max - Straight swap for Piroe possibly but don't offer them cash as well

They are starting the season with a points deduction, a huge season for them, if they miss promotion again they are in trouble. They are also facing two strong teams in West Ham and Wolves for those top two positions not to mention Burnley

Morning all

I don't think bringing in another CM makes sense unless Longstaff is going to Wolves. We need to concentrate on other positions 1st.

As for Player plus cash... I do hope that the board and recruitment team has some tasty bosmans lined up

Talented daughter Old School, not sure how long they’ll remain once we get to the knockout stage.

So imagine the mess when clubs start suing City if found guilty on their 125 charges. It would be complete turnmoil
Leicester cheated to get to the PL, cheated while they were in it, cheated again to get back in it last time. 6 points is sweet fa considering what they achieved from it. If Citeh get sent to league 2 then so be it. It as got to be known that other penalties are coming rather than a paltry few points.it as to be stopped.

Excellent work. No need to use long lasting paints either. Simplifies the job <ok>
Are there different types of paints starting with group stage paint. Then knockout stages paint being more durable. Then quarter final and semi final needing nitromors to remove. Final game paint would be like enamel and require the glass removing for chemical dipping or framing.

Children's poster paint will do you fine and easily washed off in a hurry

I like the Scots fans attitude. It's about low expectations, having a laugh and if they score a goal then that's a bonus.
England fans on the other hand reckon England are always gonna win and then there's shock, tears, recriminations and a bit of random chair throwing.

That’s because England fans are delusional. They forget, or refuse to accept, that there are far better teams in the competition.

‘Twas ever thus.

Big tournament casual fans maybe, but otherwise do you think so? We get the media 3 lions hype, every time but not sure many real fans buy into it.

Either way, we're FIFAs 4th ranked team and that would make us among the favourites. Without looking at the rankings i think most people would say argentina, france, spain are the 3 obvious choices and we'd be in the next batch.

The scots are just happy to be there, because they usually don't qualify. Hardly surprising they have lower expectations.
