All this talk of a new Striker in January is secondary to our need for 3 new defenders in my opinion. We need a natural ball winning cenetre half,a natural left back as Santon has to keep cutting back onto his right foot and a utility defender who can play in most positions across the back line. IMO we need these three on a permanent basis before we even think about a striker.

Another tough morning in the office Jock? Same here for me <laugh>

Agree, defender(s) is our number one priority. We have Ferguson and Ben Arfa who can come into the wide positions. Then a striker.

Yeah, can't get away from this place <laugh>. Come 12pm tomorrow am off for 17 days though (not that am counting) <whistle>

I agree about Benny and Fergie, they can more than cover the wings. Its defenders we need and a good few of them!!

It's all very well saying forget about a striker we need defenders but in 3 weeks Ba will be at ACoN and everyone will be going on that we need a striker because Best & Shola can't score.

Im not saying forget about the strikers, im saying maybe a loan deal for one rather than spending our full transfer budget on one in Jan. I think we need defenders here on a permanent basis then use our summer budget for a striker.

I know what you're saying, but if we keep it tight at the back we don't need to score as many which should see us through whilst Ba is away. At the moment we need to score 3 or 4 to get points from a game with the way we're defending. If we tighten up at the back we only need 1 or 2 goals. Not ideal, but defenders are a more pressing concern I think.

    We need a CB, a LB, a striker ...

...and a winger who can put a decent cross in instead of 30 step-overs and no end product.

The defence simply isn't putting the same workrate in as it did at the start of the season (and I include the midfield in that as well, as they offered little protection to the back four last night).

For me it's equally important to get a striker and a centre half in, obviously we can't carry on defendin like last night and at norwich but even if we're not concedin goals witthout demba ba I can't really see who's gonna score

Like why aye says,if we stop leaking goals we won't have to score many. Thats how we were doing it at the start of the season. I think a natural LB is as, if not more, important than a big brute of a centre half.

I think we'll get in a striker & a CB, well that's what we've told, I'd like a LB as well but not sure it'll happen.

We'll never get three Jock unless Tiote is sold. Priority signings are a left back and a centre back.

After that I believe we need a right winger, striker, cover for Tiote and a utility man.

I agree mate, we won't get 3 but we really need 3. I would love a January of Cissohko(7mill), Ridgewell (3mill),Douglas (3mill) Diame (2mill as he's out of contract in June) and Lukaku(loan). Thats 15mill(ish) for a much stronger squad and a replcement for Tiote when he is sold in the summer as expected. Use some of the Tiote money for a striker in the summer and we are in a much stronger position!!

I'd take all except Ridgewell, but that is just because I think he's ****. I'd rather take a punt on a younger lad to be honest. I understand that he is probably a more realistic defensive cover option though, because it needs to be someone who knows they're not first choice.

I really like this Diame lad, but I wasn't aware of his contract situ. We need to get in there. Him and Hoilett could come very cheap if they could be persuaded to take a chance with us rather than go sit on the bench somewhere. Cissokho I like a lot. Douglas I've seen little of, looked canny when I have seen him. Of course I'd love Vertonghen because he can play left, centre and holding role, but I think he might be out of our reach. A defence of Santon, Cissokho, Colo, Vertonghen would be top class.

Lukaku would be a good option for us. I'm not bothered what we spend on players but I'd like it done on the cheap if possible. With the strikers I'd prefer a loan to us going and paying 5m for someone who is no better than our current cover. Shane Long was the only one in that range that was a hidden diamond. We missed out not paying 6 for him in the summer. Our next permanent striker is gonna cost us 10m plus if he is the right guy.

Stoke apparently interested in Hoillet for £8m too.

Said the other day that if Tiote goes but 3 x quality players come in then we'll be in a better position overall (e.g. Cissokho, Diame, Giroud) + hopefully a CB. Not that I'm that hopeful.

Inigo Martinez is another player I would love. Again he is a left sided CB who is comfortable at LB. He has also scored 2 absolute screamers from inside his own half recently and he is only 20!!
