Leeds still front runner to land Openda despite Everton interest
In what has become one of the more intriguing transfer stories of the summer window, Belgian striker Loïs Openda finds himself at the centre of a unexpected bidding war with Leeds Utd at the front of the queue. After his dream move to Juventus turned into a nightmare, manager Luciano Spalletti has lost patience, and is trying desperately to recoup his losses. 'The Old Lady' triggering a mandatory €40.6 million obligation-to-buy clause following his loan spell, but given he only managed two goals (and no assists) in 1100 minutes of game time, interested clubs are taking a massive gamble
Attention shifted to Everton over the weekend, after the 'Liverpool Echo' pounced on a piece from 'Football Insider' claiming that Openda had been offered to the Toffee's. What they fail to disclose is that he has been offered to a host of top flight clubs including Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, RC Lens, Rennes, Monaco, Eintracht Frankfurt and of course the super Whites.
David Moyes is desperately seeking attacking options after a disappointing season in-front of goal, Beto (9 league goals), Dewsbury Hall (8), and Thierno Barry (also 8).
Leeds still appear to be front-runners for Openda's signature. Daniel Farke is reportedly a big admirer of the Belgian and has been pushing for a loan-to-buy arrangement to minimise financial exposure. Sources suggest Openda himself is keen on a move to Elland Road, viewing it as an opportunity to resurrect his career in English football. Leeds are apparently prepared to offer a "significant" wage packet to secure his services. Make no mistake though; any club signing Openda is taking a substantial gamble. Two goals and zero assists in 1,130 minutes of Serie A football represents genuinely poor returns!

Rutter deal unlikely despite speculation
Leeds United fans have long been prone to dreaming about dramatic homecomings, and the summer of 2026 will be no different with Georginio Rutter's name circulating through fan forums and social media after speculation from reliable sources on WACCOE.
The Athletic has reported that Leeds are indeed in the market for a creative number ten this summer, yet the club faces significant practical obstacles that make a permanent return for the former favourite highly unrealistic. Despite this, the rumour has gained considerable momentum across fan channels and independent media roundtables in recent weeks, creating what sources describe as a "perfect storm" of circumstances fuelling speculation.
Rutter's situation at Brighton has provided plenty of ammunition for the chatter. After a strong initial start following his club-record £40 million move in August 2024, the forward suffered ankle ligament damage in early 2025 and lost his starting spot under Fabian Hürzeler. With only three goals and three assists to his name last season, the 22-year-old has been vocal about his unhappiness regarding recent game time. The narrative received another boost when Rutter returned to Elland Road in mid-May for the first time since his departure, speaking affectionately about his deep connection to the club and its supporters.
Despite this, Brighton would demand a substantial fee to sanction any departure, and with Rutter contracted until 2029, the financial arithmetic simply does not add up for either club with strict SCR (squad cost ratio) regulations coming into place.
Leeds appear far more likely to pursue lower-cost alternatives, with free agent Harry Wilson among the names heavily linked. The Welshman is currently favourite to join the Whites, though Aston Villa pose a massive threat to Leeds plans, and they can offer European football. Unless Brighton unexpectedly opens negotiations for a structured loan arrangement, supporters should treat the Rutter links as optimistic summer gossip rather than realistic transfer business.

Leeds and Ipswich still joint favourites to land Pope
Leeds United and Ipswich Town are currently joint‑favourites to capture Nick Pope this summer, after Newcastle United confirmed they are actively seeking a replacement for the England international. Leeds have already made an official approach to St James’ Park, tabling a enquiry that mirrors the formal talks opened by Ipswich, while the newly‑promoted Hull City have also checked in, albeit some way behind the leading pair.
What gives Ipswich a distinct edge is Pope’s personal history with the club. The 34yo shot‑stopper spent six years in Ipswich’s youth academy before moving on, and he has long admitted to being a boyhood fan of the Tractor Boys. That emotional tie, combined with the club’s desire to add experienced cover for their newly‑won Premier League status, has made the Portman Road side a serious contender despite the competition.
Newcastle, meanwhile have already shelled out on £18m rising to £24m) on French U21 keeper Ewen Joouen, and have now set their sights on James Trafford too, meaning Pope has no future at St James' Park. The Magpies’ will want to offload the England star (who has just 12 months left on his terms) for as much as possible, with a figure of £5m - £10m being thrown about. It has been speculated that Leeds are prepared to offer £10m, whilst the Tractor Boys are locked in for just half that figure!
Away from the Pope chase, speculation is growing that Leeds are ready to move on another goalkeeper – Lucas Perri. The Brazilian, who arrived for around £16 million two years ago, has fallen out of favour at Elland Road, and reports suggest the club are demanding in the region of £10 million to let him go. If a buyer meets that price, Leeds would incur a near‑£6 million loss on the transaction, underscoring the financial imperative to shift the keeper before the transfer window shuts.
