He kind of distanced us from the Sunderland model. He said they spent a lot (which I'm not disputing) implying we wouldn't spend nearly as much, which probably means adjusting expectations. I slightly worry that this is how you do a Burnley.
Did he? He said he wants two big names/quality players and then a lot of potentially good, which feels a lot like what Sunderland did.

For balance, he did also say he thinks we'll sign 1-2 players who are of the level that we'll seriously miss when they're injured (maybe a weird way of putting it when I write it out but it sounded better when he said it). But he did talk a lot about going down and coming back up again and having a bigger budget the second time around, and about players coming into improve and make money in the long term, rather than getting the best players for now.
its def a reality check in that, we dont have close to the budget of sunderland

their owner is literally a billionaire, plus they sold jobe bellingham for like £30m that same summer

I listened to Q&A and my feelings is that the main concept is investment in young and talented players while selling some players before July. This is a business oriented model to make money but not the best model to stay in Premiership.
I have a feeling Acun is betting on his coach to create another miracle, and its not a big deal if it doesn't happen.
A lot of top Prem clubs have new coaches and might have turbulent season and lose some points, ans its perfect year for Hull to do everything to stay up.
In other words I believe it will be way harder to stay in Premiership in 2-3 years if Hull goes down and up again, than right now.

Maybe he is just trying to manage expectation that we might come down and thats fine, we just need to be placed to not collapse from it and have to overhaul the squad or go into financial meltdown.

I am pro this approach of being conservative and being ok with trying to yo yo up and down.

I thought it interesting that he thought the incessant injuries weren't just a coincidence.

so how is the clubs academy and training ground plans going to be funded?
How is that relevant to our transfer budget for this season which was the discussion and comparison to Sunderland? In fact owner wealth is even less relevant from less season as clubs can only spend a percentage of their income. Sponsorship is far more relevant

From the sound of it I don't think it's a large amount at all. Reading between the lines I think it was hinted at in January that getting a move for Akintola would've kept us compliant then. I doubt it'll mean making a major sale that we don't want to make.
Im a bit behind on this thread but if money for Akintola would be enough that can't be much different to the extra money from the playoffs

Every year whatever division we’re in is the weakest it’s been for years and next year will be much stronger and tougher.

The pl is objectively the weakest it's been in a while with the amount of managerial turnover amongst the top clubs. Probably the most disruption since Leicester won the league.

i thought training ground etc wasnt counted in income

but to add to sunderland

they got almost £40m from selling watson and bellingham last summer, how much can we get from outgoings?

Bellingham certainly helped them, but we're not going to spend wildly less than them. Might have to settle for not qualifying for Europe.

No idea how infrastructure spend is going to get considered under SCR.
