I think it's hard to judge Gay based on todays play. He's been in very good form for quite a while (he was playing well at the end of last season too) and deserves a chance for the summer I reckon. I do have a mild concern that McKinney is the better opener (I'm a Durham fan) and was overlooked as he's only 21 and needs another season under his belt but we had to move on from Crawley and Gay is as good a shout as many.

Not sure what that pitch was to be honest. The ball was moving laterally quite some way (hence two batsmen out clean bowled leaving the ball), it's easy to predict NZ will be batting in their second innings by close of play tomorrow the only question being who is in the better position.
