Hard to disagree. If, and that's a big IF, Roefs was to go we should looks for a reputable goalkeeper to be our undisputed number 1, Ellborg as competition and cover and it just feels like Patto is done here, Matty Young the wildcard in this sutuation.
I don't think Roefs will move this time around.It's clear they like Young...we've extended his contract...it may be we'll keep him and send Ellborg out on loan? Agree,I'd be surprised if Patto comes back.
I strongly doubt Roefs leaves this year. Patto is decent enough as a backup, and has huge value for Europe as one of the 4 club-trained players. Hopefully we can promise him some cup games and it's enough to convince him to stick around.

I don’t think we will sign him tbh. We can only spend 70% of our revenue and need around 5-6 players. I don’t see us spending £18m on a third choice RB (I do like him a lot) I just think we may lean towards a couple young project type defenders and use the funds for the attack and midfield
Been looking into him since the recent news and he looks like a midfielder we could do with. Can play as a DM and could cover Xhaka well and also play as an 8. €12m seems a bargain

We've absolutely robbed them paying that for Nordi mind. We did it with a few last summer, Xhaka was cracking value at 13m, Reinildo on a free and think it was about the same money as Nordi for Omar and Roeffs.

I think you might be right even though I'd love to keep him, I'll leave a tiny bit of room forus going back and and trying to renegotiate the fee down, if we can get him for £12-14m I think that would be a snip.
We won’t spend 18m on a third choice but we would on a first choice contender and I genuinely think the evidence this season is Mukiele and Ballard are our best RCB’s and Geertruida and Hume should fight it out for RB. Reduces the risk of an as yet unknown RCB signing and means we can focus on a LCB and LB.
Bring those three in and the defence is sorted.
Got to disagree there Cam. If we can negotiate a little bit lower fee I think Geertruida is well worth bringing in. The lad can really play and would help provide some continuity for next season. He is a really good character as well.
3rd choice RB is harsh as he's looked just as good as Hume and Mukiele. Mukiele can also get minutes as a CB and Hume at RM so there's room.
Would like to think we can recruit to be in a position that we don't need to do this though. I do think geertruida has had a good last few games but also don't know if we'd be letting that sway us too much.
If he signs I'll not complain but if he does and we end up short in other areas it might feel like a mistake.
Wasn't 18M the buy clause in the loan? If we were going to pay that we would have just activated it so clearly we are confident we can get him for less... (or will walk away if they play hardball)
This also opens him up to the market.
