So, because my brother is a cheerful chap, he's just sent me this;

Not a pleasant chart to see, and strongly suggests we are fast becoming a stable lower end Championship side..but as I looked at it, as the thread title suggests, a question came to mind...what can we do to reverse the trend?

If I'm being positive, I'd highlight that we've gone from 20th to 18th to 15th then again 15th in the last four seasons...but it is hard to get excited about consistent 15th place finishes.

So, I'd be interested to hear...what do you think can be done, that hasn't already been tried, to reverse this trend and get us moving up the table in the next few seasons?

Quite interesting data actually that we’re one of many teams mostly just bobbing along not good enough ever to be close to promotion and either being far too good or just good enough to avoid relegation. It’s not a uniquely QPR situation. It’s heavily odds-on we’ll be in the third division before being in the top division again which is the case for most of that group.

Clearly we are a mid table Championship side these days and can only hope to punch above our weight

I know he was and still remains divisive with the Rangers fanbase but during Warnock's tenure we had a manager who knew how to get the best out of his available playing resources

Since then we've lacked a manager/coach who can consistently maximise our potential, wherever that means we finish the season

Our recent football has been on average pretty dire

Bernie & Flav's revolving manager door policy finally clicked but we were too badly run to do a Bournemouth/Palace/Brentford

Let's hope either Stephan has an inspired summer or we stumble across another managerial gem

For me it starts with the manager, decent recruitment and as mentioned above, an injury free season would help

Or.maybe try some stability at the club for once. Give a manager 2 or 3 seasons to build a squad capable of challenging rather than sacking them every six months, ripping up the squad list and starting all over again
I fully agree with this concept, ask me 4 games into next season and my opinion may differ!

I’m pretty confident that if we give Stephan seven seasons we’ll finish at least 14th by the end of it. Worked for the Arsenal.

Seriously, I hope we keep him and give him time, and a couple of decent new players.

I've seen nothing from Stephan this season that gives me any confidence we'll do any better next season. Our defence has been so poor and some of his tombola selections have been bizarre. Some pretty football very occasionally produced some hopeful runs but never sustained any real chance of the play offs. Any team that employs a high press against us usually guarantees we'll gift them something. We should just admit we have too many players that just aren't good enough and unless we bring in better we'll simply have to ride the same old rollercoaster until we fall off it. The new PSR doesn't help...

We’ll have to wait until season starts to assume if he has learnt anything, see what players come in & go first, should be given another season

Yeah, I see your point...but Julien Stephan has only been able to work with what he inherited, and same for Cifuentes, Ainsworth, Critchley, Beale and Warburton before him. Those are the five managers we've had since May 2019. You can't build foundations at a club in an average of approx 18 months. Give Stefan time to build HIS squad, get them playing in a way he wants them too, and I reckon we'll see progress.

The big question is, is it his squad? Or is it the algorithm says so?...

Hopefully an exciting new first team coach and a season with no injuries might do it
Steady on. No injuries? Now that would be revolutionary. And would mean buying players who are fit and playing currently rather than ones we can 'develop' in our nursery so that they can be let go for free after 2-3 years

One minor quibble/correction. Bernie and Flav's revolving door policy never clicked. The Mittals lost patience and Bhati brought in Warnock while they left it to Bernie to muzzle mad dog Flavio and only let him out at midnight during a full moon while chained to one of the floodlight pylons. Sadly for us they were then outmanouvred in the board room meaning we lost the chance to buy Routledge. Still at least we got Shaun Wright Phillips!!!!!!!!!! And two years later he finally scored.
