I've heard from 3 different places (None of which are Alfie I should clarify) whom I place a reasonably high level of trust in that some junior staff pushed back against it but that Tonda and Spors basically forced/bullied them into it.

Not saying it's 100% true obviously (all 3 could ultimately be the same source of course) and happy for it to be proven incorrect but I definitely trust it more than a Mail journo from the NE.
This is exactly the kind of winners mentality we needed but ultimately isn’t acceptable. The culture created on the pitch has been outstanding under their tenures and to see it all squandered like this for tiny tiny advantages is ridiculous.

I imagine the club are tyring to work out if they legally have to pay little (or any) compensation to the management staff who openly admitted to orchestrating the spying.

Mate, we went bust and got relegated to League One with a ten point deduction not that long ago. This is not the worst it’s been. We’ll survive somehow, and bounce back eventually.

In the meantime, **** Boro, **** the EFL, **** the PL, **** em all in fact.

this is worse than relegation.

Never known a club to shoot itself in the foot this badly. To go from the highs of having the best team in the league, to booted out for what is a minor infraction.

It’s ****ing mind boggling. How the **** have they let this happen

Wow, finally caught up with everything. I wanted to post yesterday but there were too many comments to read and then today not606 went down!

Can't believe it, it doesn't feel real! Gutted for the players, gutted for the fans....the only thing that gives me hope is that there is a possibility that this leads to some sort of change in the modern game.

Too much cheating and corruption, too much money at the top and the gulf is getting so big it was only a matter of time before someone got caught bending the rules or in our case fully breaking them!

It just had to be Saints, add this to the good and bad things that put us on the map! 2 x 9-0 results. Fastest ever Premier League Relegation. Fastest hat-trick. Fastest Goal. Ali Dia!

I'm hoping that this now sets a precedent for all other teams breaking the laws of the game as the punishments upto now have largely been pathetic.

Only today I have thought about the big 6 super league breakaway attempt. Their punishment was a shared £22 million fine which is equal to just over £3.6million each!

Likewise Liverpool hacking Man City's training database = £1million fine.

I would love it if we said to everyone else, **** it, if you want to watch us train, come along anytime! I believe Brazil did this at some point(obvs we are not Brazil)!

Wrexham want to sue, Millwall want to sue, if Hull lose they will want to sue. Fans want to sue for lost money on meaningless games, hotels they no longer need etc. It's a complete shambles.

I get we did wrong and I'm gutted we did it, but what about all the players and coaches including our own who cheat every match. Shirt pulling, hair pulling, diving, feet stamping, groin grabbing, name calling. Surrounding the ref, being outside the tech area. Touching the ref, harassing the assistant refs etc. Tapping up, financial irregularities! The list goes on and on and on.

Next season I am looking forward to a zero tolerance stance on all these things. I want to see players get yellow carded and red carded for every single offence. I want to see matches abandoned when the teams end up fielding less than 7 players. Continue this harsh stance on every aspect of the game and our little spying soirée may just save English Football!

And if this is the era of being hated like Millwall, then so be it. **** it, let's get behind the club no matter what happens and take on the world!

From what I've heard he's very much involved. Worse than what's been reported.
He’s definitely involved as he’s said previously that all departments go through him. More info will, come out over the next couple of days though the EFL may hold back until next week as their prize asset of the play off final has took a battering this week, and they’ll want it to be about that match this weekend.
We need to do a complete sweep of any coaches, management etc that had or played any part in the spy scandal. I don’t care who they are, they have to go, no excuses and need to start with Tonda and Spors.
Sadly I would also let any player go that doesn’t want to be here, morally we don’t really have a foot to stand on, and if transfer valuations are meant you’d have to totally understand why they’ve gone.
Also, SR need to put feelers out if there are any interested buyers, their reign has been a complete **** show, culminating in what is and will continue to be the darkest day in our history.
As for next season, well I guess Hull are a great example to look at. Transfer embargo all season, put together a team of free agents and loan players, but have had an amazing season which I hope ends with promotion this Saturday over the North East Karens.

As for us fans, well I guess we all have a decision to make about renewing season tickets, going to away games etc. Think SR need to start by reducing season tickets considerably as an olive branch to us, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
For me personally as of today I won’t renew, but if they show that they will learn and change from this and hopefully sell up, well, what else is there to do on Saturdays? :)

Apart from the Spygate scandal, we’ve actually had a remarkable season both on the pitch and in recruitment. I’m as angry as everyone else with the people who sanctioned visits to other clubs’ training sessions — the damage caused by that stupidity is enormous.
And if we’re being realistic, it’s difficult to believe the coaching staff and possibly even some players were completely unaware of what was going on.
But there’s also a bigger picture to consider.
If we sack everyone and start again, we risk setting the club back even further. Rebuilding from scratch would be incredibly difficult, especially after everything that’s happened.
If we keep the structure in place, learn from this properly, and ensure standards are never breached again, there is at least a chance to retain much of the squad and continue the progress that had been made in terms of playing style and recruitment.
It pains me to even say that, because frankly they don’t deserve much sympathy for what they’ve done.
But this can’t just be about emotion or anger. It has to be about what gives Southampton the best chance of getting back to the Premier League.

Still very much ****ed off this morning at both the people involved at the club, and at the EFL. I still strongly believe that if we were a bigger club we wouldn't be being 'made an example of', it's why although it seem like breaking the spending rules in the PL is the best way to stay up and take the small points deduction as punishment, I've always felt that the time we do it, they'll suddenly be calls for stronger sanctions. I also hate all the sanctimonious bullshit coming from other clubs and fans from other clubs as if we've ruined the sanctity and integrity of football. **** right off. There's been none of that in football for a long, long time and all your bastard clubs are involved in the shady business on the regular too.

This one really hurts because following years of being utterly ****, barely surviving or getting relegated with record low points tallies, getting absolutely smashed regularly on the pitch and being a laughing stock for how **** we are, it kind of felt like the last few months we might have finally turned a corner. There was genuine hope that if we could get over the line this season then we had much stronger foundations to make an actual attempt at staying up. But no, we can't have nice things. Football is supposed to be an escape from a lot of the **** in the real world, but **** me it's not an escape when you support Saints is it. It's more disappointments and misery.

The thing thats going to **** me off about this until the rest of eternity is I just know that the next infraction from a different club will not be met with the same amount of zealous hand wringing.

Nor will it at all be met with the same punishment or even close to. They've done this because its Southampton. Our board is weak, our head honchos are pathetic. Christ, by all accounts Parsons gift wrapped the decision for them.

**** the EFL
**** Boro

But most of all

They're going to have to offer serious discounts (which they won't) on ST renewals to even get close to filling St Mary's next season. I am not prepared to shell out over £500 to watch a team of rejects play week after week.
This will be interesting. I do think that the season ticket issue will force SR's hand. The punishment will make many ST holders reflect upon renewing. I think that there will be a new owner and regime lined up by August. Solak has no choice but to cash in. The ban has forced his hand and the club cannot continued under the discredited SR regime. The cheating happened under their watch and is another example of the ack of professionalism. Getting Spors in was a coup but there is something wrong within the club is cheating is not only condoned but found to be amusing.

More nonsense!

I think this judgment sets a precedent, especially for EPL. Not sure we will see anything on this scale for a long while as it is such a deterrent.

Parson's did not gift wrap the decision. We had to hand over the mobiles and there was sufficient evidence to stick the three charges against us. God knows how many other instances we go away with.

You are unable to post anything that is balanced. It is either Saints are victims or we are the greatest thing since sliced bread, all dosed with a heavy dollop of juvenile emotion.
