I think it does show that filming some training sessions past the 72hr cut off point doesn't lead to tangible on-field advantages.
Why did we do it multiple times then?

Matches are often settled by the tiniest of margins and if for example you know the exact set pieces a team is practicing then there's definitely a tangible advantage there.

I read somewhere that set pieces accounted for nearly 25% of all goals scored this season.

As mentioned earlier. There was no rule against spying when Leeds did it. They were fined £200k for essentially 'unsportsmanship". The official rule against spying was put in place after Leeds spygate.

Unfortunately you lot were the ones caught doing it and they've made an example out of you.

Not the fans fault but it's always us that shoulder the burden.

The thing is, if the EFL are kicking us out of a playoff final for filming a few training sessions, what precedent does that set for others going forward? If you breach FFP like Leicester did last summer, are you getting relegated regardless of how much you've overspent?

Leeds got a £200k fine for spying over a whole season.

This punishment is an absolute joke.

Not to mention Boro being reinstated is beyond a travesty. Lawfare does not win games. Neither does an iPhone from 300 yards
I get the anger but it’s pretty clear we must have been doing it for much of the season (suspect since Tonda came in). When Leeds did it there was no specific rule. Now there is. It seems harsh and over the top - it is - but there is only 1 party to blame in this…

Exactly. There’s no chance of winning this on appeal. Complete waste of time IMO and will just make it look worse for us.

At the moment I am not. May change my mind over the next few weeks, but as it stands no season ticket for next year.
I’m done. 1956-26, 70 years and my grandsons make the 6th generation of Saints supporters in my family. I’m weirdly glad my predecessors are no longer with us to see all thus unfold. Personally if SMS is empty for the first match next season, I wouldn’t shed a tear.

I think there's an advantage in pre match preparation, absolutely, otherwise we and other teams wouldn't have tried to do it. Keepers are allowed to have the penalty takers names on their water bottles to look at in a match, and list which way etc that they will most likely go. Is that not a similar level of advantage?

People calling for Tonda to go really need to calm down.
Assuming he knew and this punishment stands then I don't know how he can stay. He's been part of something that has potentially cost his employer £200 million. In that scenario he'll probably get some sort of ban from football anyway.

it doesn’t matter, the offence is still the same offence. The punishment is absolutely absurd

He will be looking at a lengthy ban IMO. No two ways about, I reckon he’s gone.

No, I think the advantages might be small but there might be some. I mean they did it for a reason, m ore than once. It’s clearly a thing that we were doing over the season, they have chosen to fess up to games where we didn’t win to argue that there was no advantage. However we were unbeaten in nearly 20 games so we are basically saying spying cost us points. What nonsense.

I'm not disputing our charges, we've done it (and most likely more than three times) but to just accept one of the biggest footballing punishments in modern history is even crazier than us spying in the first place!

I imagine that the EFL are quite relieved that the other two clubs were Ipswich and Oxford. Neither of them will seek any sort of financial compensation, one assumes.

If it had been Millwall or Wrexham (or maybe even Derby), that would have been another can of worms.

I dread to think how many players will leave us, one way or another, this summer now.
But surely we did spy on others. Maybe those were the ones we couldn't hide for some reason? Or else, what a bizarre choice to spy on Oxford.

This is so overblown and draconian. Spying did not gain us anything in terms of results - QED by the fact we earn the equivalent of 2 points from a hypothetical 9 when we spied. Obviously, first thing is: they should not have done this, and there really was no need. But since they were doing it, once they were in the playoffs, they really should not have taken further risks - and definitely should not have sent a kid to do it. Clearly either been doing it way more than we know and gone seasons without being caught, or was just an amateur operation. And I very specifically say 'they' rather than 'we'.

I do think there is some chance SR did not know about this - it could have been organised discreetly at analyst level. And I would like them to publish details of their internal review asap. But if they are appealing, I can see why they still can't say anything.

I'll be very surprised if this was sanctioned above Spors and Tonda.
They both came from German football where spying on oppo training is rife and almost accepted. If they don't get a ban from the EFL then I want them to resign or be sacked and the football side of the club has a reset and make a fresh start.
I feel like the unbeaten and cup run is tainted now and it all feels a bit grubby after feeling great pride and it is not a nice feeling.
Some things are bigger than success and honesty and integrity are important to me and at this moment I feel like going to watch Sholing instead.
It's very likely that it will be a very different team by the end of August and you have to wonder if Solak will up sticks and pull out.
I love the club but the future is very much up in the air and it feels a bit like the worst of the Lowe years right now.
