an outcome with Spurs/West Ham both getting to stay up is the worst of all outcomes. How would we get a bye? The infringement was against Boro, before any games had been played. I fail to see how we could get straight through. If Saints get kicked out before Saturday, at best we just play Boro in the final. At worst they replay and the final gets moved.
Assuming the game goes ahead as planned and saints win but retrospectively get kicked out after a drawn out saga, West Ham will get to stay up instead.
Can you read? I said "portrayed". I'm not on about any legitimate questions raised in summer.
Don't play dumb. I really don't need to remind you of all the stupid stuff some on here said about him, why he was here, what he was going to do, etc etc. I suggest his comments this week (should) put to bed the silliness.
And for the record I am saying I disagree with him ....which should also put to bed those childlike insults levelled at me.
What's said publicly might also differ to what hes saying to the EFLWhat Acun is saying now, or has been advised to say at this stage, may differ wildly from what might be said next Monday. Lets hope thats doesn't need to be said.
Which clearly means there will be a 0. 5% chance of any meaningful punishmentIt's understood a decision is expected within 24 hours. The preference, given the time pressures here ahead of Saturday's scheduled final, would be to provide a decision today, but it might stretch into tomorrow morning.
Because it would be too late to reinstate Boro as the final has already been played.
We'll have to agree to disagree.Yeah so in that case they would let West Ham stay up instead. Boro would have the EFL’s pants down in court if we got promoted as losers as essentially their semi final would be null and void so they would have a solid claim to have been in the final.
Not happening. 0% chance.
Byes are granted before a match is played, not after. Boro played two matches and lost, they can’t get reinstated. How? Because if Saints get kicked out, they should never have been in the final in the first place. That means we need to play Boro who would legitimately be there instead.
Because they can break the rules (attempting to view training) without it affecting the result, so if Southampton get kicked out for breaking rules but Middlesbrough were still beaten on the pitch could be an argument for our automatic promotionHow? But if Southampton are expelled their semi final is voided, the result doesn’t stand.
You can’t go back and replay an entire tournament if one team is booted out. This is an unusual situation because it’s effectively a cup match with two rounds, but if it happened earlier in say the FA Cup, you’d get every team beaten by the cheaters in an earlier round demanding reinstatement. But if Southampton are expelled their semi final is voided, the result doesn’t stand.

If Southampton are expelled Wrexham have lawyers on stand by too as they finished 7th
Yes but if the decision comes after the final, and we lose, we would be promoted. As per the 1990 Swindon example.Every time a team has been disqualified from a tournament the team they played in the round of the transgression has been sent through to the next round instead. That is what will happen here too. Their next opponents don’t just get a bye for the next round.
Oh boy, what an ending this could be:If Southampton are expelled Wrexham have lawyers on stand by too as they finished 7th

I just can’t see that happening. I think there’s only 2 optionsVery different circumstances though. Back then the FA was in control of all 4 divisions, the premier league now would have a lot more weight to refuse to admit the losing finalist to keep their 18th placed side in.
Also the infraction this time is a very specific offence committed against Boro in the playoff competition. It would be more comparable to fielding an ineligible player. If Southampton get expelled for that, Boro would have a very strong case to have been in the final and I have no doubt Gibbo would push that all the way, probably successfully.
Have they got an outlet in Glasgow Jim?On a positive note Wings International Cuisine are offering 50% off your bill if City get promoted. Every cloud and all that....
