Just back from the game.

Felt like a pre season friendly to be honest. Thought Leeds were too nice today, there was no nastiness, we gave Brighton space to play and never really got in to them. Brighton weren't much better either although they just had more quality.

Georginio and Milner got a good reception. Georginio did a quick lap of honour to clap all the Leeds fans before spending about 2 seconds clapping the Brighton end before quickly disappearing down the tunnel.

Game was poor. It kinda feels like we haven't played that well since the first half at old trafford but we just keep getting results. That's the sign of a good side.

Or just lucky. It has been a great first season that we need to build on, the problem for me is although results have gone our way, I look at Gnonto and Longstaff on the bench and Tanaka and Aaronson starting and just think why.

No doubt about it, Farke was a roll of the dice away from the sack against City, we’ve had lots of unlucky coaches but Farke has been blessed with good fortune, he’s also been responsible for some good team performances that have far exceeded expectations.

Do we accept he has learnt fast this season, he is calm and good at bringing players together and totally accept his judgement.

Despite this great season, he’s constantly 3-4 defeats away from me wanting him gone, I can’t pinpoint why, I’m just not 100 invested in him and I feel I should be.

It was a question. Farkes brief was to keep us up and he's done that comfortably. He said in his press conference that we need to kick on next season so hopefully he will be more proactive than reactive.
It is just my opinion and I know nothing.
Not a dig, just genuinely interested by what you thought as better (I assumed you meant this season) because I think he’s surpassed all expectations by having us watch the final three games stress free other than wanting a win. Didn’t know if you meant DF could have done better, if he’d been replaced, a new manager could have done better.

I don't think we've been lucky this season. Maybe the last 4 or 5 games we have had a turnaround in fortunes but earlier this season it felt like everything and everyone was against us at times.

This. We should have lost yesterday. We put some great blocks in but they had plenty of good opportunities. We were lucky. Last couple of months things have gone our way. As you say, for most of the season nothing went our way. For all everyone makes a big thing about the formation change at city - and I get why - it certainly tightened us up defensively… truth is we didn’t deserve to be where we were in the league at that time. We couldn’t buy a break.

My dear friend LoL will be along soon to explain the fineries of the xg table to back that up. When he wakes up from the Valium he took over ‘match momentum’ <cheers>

Second half of the season we’ve also cut out the individual errors and had a more reliable keeper.

Putting it out there, and it’s not a dig because I think you’ve been fair to him this season. But… you were previously vocal in not rating him - championship manager etc. Most of us when we’ve formed an opinion struggle to fully let go of it. There were reasons you didn’t rate him so it’s not surprising that if he gives you the opportunity for them to resurface you’ll likely pick up on them quicker than most. Just human nature.

I like Gnonto. But I get why he doesn’t start - and whilst aaronson’s form dipped clearly in the new year - I see what BA brings to team structure and pressing that Gnonto doesn’t - why you’d rather have BA run himself into the ground and bring Willy on against tired legs than the other way round.

Was about to say keeper was a factor. Also, it’s often hard to know when good luck is really good play. I think our formation makes it harder to pick up a cheap goal against us.

Comments and notes on Farke, I don’t disagree with any of them, I do struggle with being 100% on board

I think most fans have struggled at times. I'm a big fan of what he has done here but occasionally I lose patience with some things. The insistence that Meslier was his number 1 completely did my nut in. Early season when we tried to play too much football despite signing a ****load of 6ft plus players was another strange one that still raises its head every now and then.

Despite the few things I dont agree with, he is probably up there with the best managers we've had. Maybe even top 5 managers. Struggling to find 5 better ones.

I do agree about his stubbornness at times but I think it goes hand in hand with obsessive types who believe in a way of playing. We had no manager More stubborn than Bielsa. It’s a strength in one sense and a weakness in another. It’s also hard sometimes I think to separate a systemic weakness from individual error. It took Farke a while to conclude that the amount of goals conceded down our left hand side wasn’t a coincidence.

Likewise with sub timings. There’s been a few games where our legs had gone - Newcastle away for one - where I was screaming for subs well before they were made. Then we made them and werent any better. There’s some work to do on squad balance if we’re going to continue to play such an intensive brand of football.

My point being, I don’t always agree with his decisions but usually I can understand the reasoning.

Hope he stays and we add a bit of stardust and a bit of defensive competition. Looking forward to seeing where that takes us.

But if he goes he goes and I’ll get behind the next guy

The real trouble is, if we replace Farke then it will be with a real punt. Any fans thinking that the likes of Glasner and Silva, both of whom are reportedly leaving their clubs because they don’t believe the boards match their ambitions, are living on cloud cuckoo land if they think they’re coming here. So who is an upgrade on DF?

On Farke, if he’s allowed another season that will be how he should be judged. Does he takes on into top half or do we fall back into the relegation slots.

I realise it’s not that simple, as the club has to continue to strengthen the squad, but essentially that’s how I’d judge him.

So far, all I’d say is we had a bottom 3 squad according to valuations in trsnsfermkt. So we’ve put performed clubs with on paper higher value squads.
