The couldn’t realistically have done that in a day. Southampton would have appealed it and the semi final would still be dragging on now as the 2nd leg wouldn’t be able to be played until it’s finished.
They could have heard the appeal as quick as this hearing and game on

I actually wonder how much the efl actually make you know. OLM (i think) suggested we make 2 mil the final. Which divided by 36,000 the number of tickets we are getting is 55.5. Some tickets are £100 or £80 but its still a huge share of that gate reciept.

Hiring Wembley is a lot of money, the EFL will be paying that from their share.

There will be a penalty clause for not using the stadium but if the independent body rule that Saints are out I dont think the EFL would be in financial trouble by having to ditch the game. It will just be a kick in the teeth they can probably recoup in fines

The corporate, sponsorship and TV revenue is pretty big for the game. The EFL make decent money from it. Then there's the reputation and "face" side of things and the whole "richest game in the world" stuff... I just can't ever see them not having a playoff final. It would be a contractual mess if it didn't go ahead

Everything becomes a lot easier for the efl
If we win <laugh>

I do agree with you, its probably the absolute worst case for the EFL.

Best case scenario for us is the game goes ahead and we get dubious decisions all game. We win 4-0 with 3 penalties and they have 5 men sent off, and basically just have a booze up on a sunny bank holiday weekend <cheers>

As much as it’d be better for the nerves if the EFL just said you don’t need to play you’re just promoted, it wouldn’t feel right to me. I’ve bought the ticket so I want to see the game go ahead, would feel like a hollow victory if we didn’t actually win. Let’s play the game and just beat the cheating bastards fair and square. UTFT

If 35k people buy tickets to attend the game on 23rd, then because the game is moved to an inconvenient night and time, lose an average of say £100 each due to lost rail tickets, and unreturnable hotel fees etc..etc that's a total £3.5m. All lost due to Southampton FC's cheating. Then Southampton should be forced to pay that sum to City, who can pay those people back on receipt of evidence...That would be one hell of an admin task. But in principle the EFL should be looking at it, as a punishment to them.
PS..Not much chance it will happen, but it should.

If they get five sent off, in normal time, we're fecked. :emoticon-0138-think

I think you're probably right here. Sort of seems like it was a funny story that wasn't that serious at first but it's grown legs and been taken more and more seriously to the point that it's now almost taboo to question whether it's really that big a deal. But as you say, the sporting advantage here is relatively minor compared to diving for a penalty.

The funny story that started with Leeds when it wasn't even illegal to spy on the opposition. The FA / EFL felt or were persuaded that something had to be done so they made a law less than 72 hrs before a game is illegal 73hrs before isn't, then they didn't set out clear and consise punishments.

It’s the last bit that really infuriates me .

If we’ve done wrong ( yes I know what SFC have said ) , then FFS let US know what the penalty will be . It wouldn’t have taken this long if they had sanctions in place .

I’m amazed they haven’t blamed bloody Lock Down for part of the delays !

This still doesn't even feel real to me. Maybe due to the other times we got to the playoff final the 2nd semi-final was at home and this time I had to watch on the telly?

It's not really sunk in that we're 90 mins from being in the prem next season. This time next week we'll be pissed as a fart, elated, or miserable.

What a truly mental season this has been. Remember the Watford frozen pitch debacle? The MKM squirrel making a return and that poor groundsman having to chase it about with a coat? conceding 2 **** goals in 2 mins against Wrexham and then losing on pens in the league cup. Transfer embargo, injuries galore, some terrible losses and some dominant victories. Mad.

The official wording says the punishment may be a fine, immediate points deduction or exclusion from the competition.

I think the FA have backed themselves into a corner here. Options 2 and 3 would throw the whole league final finishing positions into turmoil. Leaving only option 1 however that no matter how high the fine won't quell the uproar over the spying.
