Would Boro.have pulled this spying stunt on another opponent in order to gain public support? Boro could easily have dealt with the matter quietly, professionally and efficiently without stirring up.a hornets nest.
I can tell you something for nothing - if they were told from the start “there is no way we are giving you a free pass to the final regardless of the outcome of the tie as a result of this. If they are found seriously guilty but beat you then the winners of the other playoff go up” then they would not have done this. This isn’t some righteous crusade for fair play and sportsmanship

One could argue they are attempting to gain a sporting advantage through their media propaganda campaign. Rather than, you know, just winning the matches

I see that Nick Illingsworth has said the following on The Ugly Inside ...

"Firstly the man was not an employee of Southampton football club, he had been involved with the club at one point, but he was actually a student studying a degree in Sports Analysis, he had spent time at Saints as an intern as part of a placement from his course, but he had also spent time at Derby County and other sporting institutions and since March has been at Aston Villa."

No idea if this is true or not. Is this William Salt actually not an employee anymore? If he wasn't our employee at the time then that makes a big difference to things (unless they have evidence of him doing it elsewhere while he was working for us)

Just a thought which is keeping me sane this morning:

If the EFL prevented us from competing in the playoff final, given what’s at stake in terms of Premier League revenues, it would be up there amongst the most severe sporting punishments of all time, and on a par with Juventus’ punishment in 2006 of:
  • Relegation to Serie B
  • Stripping of two league titles
  • Points deductions
The punishment was for Juventus attempting to:
  • influence referee appointments,
  • pressure officials,
  • create favourable conditions,
  • and manipulate the system behind the scenes.
Bear in mind that was for match-fixing, not sending an intern to watch an open training session.

No that's incorrect, lots of people are saying that based on an article on the website of Derby Uni but said article was published in January 2025.

So he was at Derby but is very much our employee now?
Well in the article he mentions doing work for us and now being at Villa so his placement with us had ended by January 2025. But he's pictured with Tonda earlier this year for one of the manager of the month awards.
