30 year old Chuba Akpom now has a 3 year deal with us after the obligation in his loan deal was triggered. 7 million quid to be paid to Ajax.

Whoever made that deal didn't do a good job, why would you agree to a 3 year deal for someone that is 30?
Feck,that's ridiculous!

If he had of had a blinding season we would have been protected from losing him, it’s always a gamble and as we are premier league it’s a drop in the ocean, not ideal but nothing to worry about.

I really think matusiwa will struggle big time in the Prem. He got caught out many times in the championship, I hate to think how he will cope in the Prem. I think we will go after Hackney again. I think we will sign an absolute minimum of 6 players. At least 3 of which will cost up to 30 million each!!

Central midfield and strikers are the biggest 2 areas for me. I think Matusiwa will be ok in the prem - he has never played a 46 game season before and was clearly carrying an injury for the last month of the season but needs must and he played through it. I think we need somebody more robust than Hackney (although wouldn’t mind him alongside another cm). The regular back 4 can play some games next season but we need reinforcements and I would say a starting left centre back which would allow Greaves to cover left back and left centre back. Not sure either of the number 10s we have can cope with the physicality of the higher level. I have to say how exciting it is when for years, we were wondering which free transfer / loan player would come through the door (and we had some shockers) that now we have owners that are willing to invest. I also think that our scouting will be much better this time as previously we went back to back so had no real European / worldwide scouts and just bought the best championship players

I have to say that coming up against teams like Arsenal again fills me with awe! Lots of good points raised about our recruitment this time. Overseas scouting will be critical, bearing in mind we had the nucleus of a League 1 team last time!

This team are going to have to either really step up their game individually and collectively or we're going to need a massive overhaul.

I think based on performances this season O'Shea is probably the only one good enough for the step up and even he made some naive mistakes a few times.

Matusiwa is good enough off the ball but not on it, so we need players alongside him to take the pressure off him to playmake.

Recruitment hasn't been good for a couple of seasons now, definitely an area we need to improve. Despite all the money spent on staff our best window was the first one game changer were in charge for. Based on signing Kipre and Akpom, I wouldn't say it's a particularly strong start.

I think most will cost up to 30 million to be honest

Much will depend on how deep Gamechanger and other investors pockets are, as well as if they are determined to give us a better chance of staying up. And of course, encouraging KM to stay at Ipswich!

The challenge will also be that for all how amazing McKenna is, things don't often click straight away. Will he be able to bring a group of new players together and get them performing well from the start.

I still think we would've been better last season going with the promotion winning team in the Prem and gradually integrating the new signings. Fortunately/Unfortunately this seasons whilst we got promoted this team still don't look like a cohesive unit so you won't be disrupting too much by bringing new players in.

I saw a quote in the EADT from Mark Ashton saying he had seen all of the owners over the last couple of days, who basically said bring us a plan and we’ll support it. I took from the full article that this meant financially. We are still well funded, so money is there for players. I’m ok with Walton in goal, but Palmer/Muric may go permanently, so we’ll need cover. Midfield will need investment and definitely need 2 strikers. Not sure about Philogene and Clarke. Will they cut it in the prem? Time will tell. Kipre is a good purchase, but guess Akpom may be sold off at a loss.

Forget overseas scouting, finding a bargain and all that nonsense, the bottom line is we all shop on the same shelf and if just one club come sniffing the agent is on the phone to everyone else.

Every signing we made and virtually every one made by Sunderland, were all linked, some players talking to both clubs and several others.

The difficult part is players not wanting to talk to a newly promoted team as they fear instant relegation. It really is near on impossible to unearth a real gem nobody else knew was available.

Agents run the fake stories, they leak rubbish that XYZ is after their player, it’s all a gamble and a coach being able to make the cogs turn the big wheel.

We took a huge gamble signing players with injury plagued seasons in their locker.

You watch your targets getting linked with the other two who come up with you along with ourselves (assuming we stay up) and any other team in the bottom quarter.

Transfer rumours are fun, frustrating and all a load of bull most of the time.

Was it ever any different??

We know McKenna likes going back in for players that initially rejected us (or their club did) so do we go back in for Aziz on the right or not?

I don’t think we will be going for championship players this time, and I think we will be looking for some big athletic imposing players.
