All this algorithm nonsense is basically the lazy man's way of recruiting, whatever happened to good old fashioned scouting? We've had a procession of turkeys that are nowhere near good enough, Celar being the star of the perennial sh*tshow. I'd far prefer a decent manager who is allowed to bring in players he wants. Remember when Warnock arrived his first two signings were Derry & Hill, I remember the general disappointment at those but he was right, they were key signings that promotion year. You'd have thought Stephan would know rising French talent that might be available but there's little sign of it...

Absolutely.

But he’s not very good at football.
Back to basics. The beautiful passing game is all well and good. But let's get the priorities right. The aim, even for nerds who play the beautiful game only online, is simple. Put the sphere into the net between the sticks at the end you are attacking and do it as often as you can. Let's call that the primary objective.

The secondary objective but only marginally less important is to prevent the other team doing so into the other net between the sticks which is at the opposite end of the pitch. Ever. Impossible? Well at least less than once in each match. Or put another way less than the number of times you achieve the primary objective.

At all times abide by the rules of the game.

Master those objectives and you can then play tippy tappy to your heart's desire provided you remember what the primary objective is.

A good start is to select employees to play in certain positions which achieve first the primary objective. And then the secondary objective. Passing skill is desirable but not the sole criterion.

You will lose your client base if you forget the primary and secondary objectives however adept your employees are at passing.

What I’m hearing is we need someone who can control the pass from Walsh to then play a pass back to Walsh.

Control is one thing. I’d like to see speed of execution. We take far too long on the ball most of the time before making the pass. The people are there in reasonably good positions, we just seem to take our time.
That slowness is a very obvious feature of our game over the last few seasons.
There is the occasional game when we are slick, so why not more often?

At the end of his contract with Guingamp, the imposing Malian midfielder would attract the interest of Queens Park Rangers but also of the Russians of Akhmat Grozny and the Poles of Wisla Krakow, who would have submitted an offer to him.

After three years in Brittany, Kalidou Sidibé has reached the end of a cycle with Guingamp, the club where the 27-year-old defensive midfielder has played the most matches in his career (95). While he will reach the end of his contract on June 30, the giant who stands at 2.02m will live this summer his first experience outside France, where he has accumulated 165 matches in L2 and 24 in L1.

After wearing the colors of Toulouse, Châteauroux, QRM and EAG as a professional, the native of Montreuil has been approached by at least three foreign clubs. If the Queens Park Rangers, Championship residents and coached by Julien Stéphan, would have expressed their interest, the Poles of Wisla Krakow would have already submitted a contract offer, as would Akhmat Grozny. The Russian club would also be pushing to convince the new Malian international, who had his first cap with the Eagles in March, in Russia (0-0).

A player who was the link between the young and the old, Sidibé had a key role this season at Guingamp, where the objective of the play-offs to reach the L1 evaporated from March, when the bad run in Brittany occurred. He has appeared 29 times in L2 this season (2 goals, 2 assists).

Q

What is this Wasn't it he who, during a trip by the EAG, on leaving their hotel, had witnessed a theft of a mobile phone?! He then chased the thief and then managed to bring back the mobile phone! In short, an excellent midfielder, this Kalidou!

Permanent Sam Field switch is welcome at Norwich

When asked about completing a permanent move for QPR loanee Sam Field, FLW’s Norwich fan pundit Zeke Downes claimed he wouldn’t be against the move at this stage.

He believes the midfielder provides a strong level of experience to the squad, and that he offers strength in depth to Clement for next season, suggesting he’d be open to a deal with the London outfit.

“I think he’s one that I would be happy to have,” Downes told Football League World.

“He’s got the experience in the league, he’s a good enough age where he’s not too old and I think a lot of the players around him can learn a lot from him.

“He’s played a lot of games in the Championship, and he played really well when we needed him, and he could be a really good squad option.

“So I think if we signed him, I wouldn’t be unhappy.

“I could see it happening, although with Topic coming back, that would be sort of five deeper midfield options, which isn’t a terrible thing to have.

“So I could see us offering him a deal, maybe a short-term one.”

Field made the switch to Carrow Road on a temporary basis in the final stages of the January transfer window.

The midfielder had fallen down the pecking order at QPR under Julien Stéphan, starting nine of his 18 league appearances in the first half of the campaign.

Field played 13 times for Norwich in the Championship, and helped the team rise back up the table.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the 28-year-old, who agreed to a new contract with the Hoops 12 months ago.

Stéphan’s future at QPR is currently up in the air, with the Frenchman recently being linked with a move back to Ligue 1.

That could play a role in determining the next step in Field’s career, with a permanent move to Norwich also potentially on the table.

With the Championship season now over, the managerial merry-go-round is likely to get into full swing over the coming weeks and months.

Clubs up and down the country will make decisions ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, and one name who has been linked with several jobs in England is Filipe Luis.

To the surprise of many, it had been claimed that he is on Middlesbrough’s radar, despite the excellent job that Kim Hellberg has done since he succeeded Rob Edwards, whilst it was also reported that QPR are tracking the Brazilian, even though Julien Stephan had a solid first year at Loftus Road.

Wasn't Tuck supposed to be one for our future?

Yeah they really fancied him at one point. Bit lightweight, injuries. Did quite well in one of his loans but in division six. At 20 he’s still got time. I hope Bwood have a look at him.

Sad to see young players not making to the next stage but I’d rather see that and fresh eager young players come in. They’ll also know we’re no soft touch either, so will need to graft to get on here. We have been too soft in the past and kept young players for far too long.
