Who will we be playing?

Will we get a 'big' team at The Valley?

Will you go to any of the friendlies?

Who will be the trialists?

So much to discuss as we build for the new campaign.

Let's put all the pre-season action in here.

I'd like to follow us to Europe for a friendly - preferably to the Netherlands or Belgium - but I think it'll be a warm-weather camp in Spain or Portugal.

I remember watching us many moons ago (the Curbs/Gritt years) on a tour of the South-West. I'm sure we played Dorchester Town, then Bournemouth, when a tall blonde Soviet international trialled for us. After one of the matches, Garry Nelson joined us for a pint. I must have been sixteen or seventeen at the time. Great days!

Did anyone else go to Curbs' testimonial against Hearts at The Valley? I'm sure it was Andy Hunt's home bow and he was hopeless on the day. Boy, did he come good!

I can add this thread to the sticky collection at the top of page 1 if you like @Ponders Revisited

There will be a few quiet periods during the Summer, but that way it won't drop down the list.

NJ loves to go to Slovenia, I think they've done that both Pre-Seasons

Charlton played Killie in a pre-season a few years ago. It was in Spain, and I'd already booked my holidays at that time. My son wanted to go, but it was behind closed doors, and Killie won 1-0.
I used to go to the Welling game but we haven't played them since they crocked Leaburn.

I have seen us out in Spain, Sweden, Italy, Holland and Denmark.

Other clubs supporters think I am taking the p*** when I tell them I have seen us out in Spain playing Valencia. An absolutely fantastic ground.

Seen Hull in pre-season matches in Portugal, Austria, and Germany. Beat Benfica 1-0, although it wasn't at their stadium. Decent booze trips. :emoticon-0138-think

Pre-Season is all about trips like this.
Saw us play in Europe after we qualified as FA Cup runners up. Slovakia (Trencin) FC) and Belgium (Lokeren FC). The Belgian police were **** bags, after the match plod dressed in full riot gear, a water cannon truck turned up, and they escorted us back to the train station a different route to the one before the match. This route took us right past the main Lokeren hooligans pub, whereupon they 'greeted' us with a hail of glasses and stones. Plod did nothing. :emoticon-0138-think

I see Birmingham are to play Barcelona in a pre-season friendly at St. Andrew's.

Does that mean we will get Real Madrid or Bayern or Juventus at The Valley?

If we're really lucky we might get a glamorous Prem team, like Fulham <doh>
For the last friendly of course.
