'It was like a punch in our face

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris speaking to Sky Sports: "The big difference in intensity is clear. We started ok but then progressively we felt that they were more involved, intense, pragmatic.

They pressed well and we were unable to build up under this pressure and the momentum shifted at that moment. They were clinical, they scored four goals in the first half. It was like a punch in our face."

"We gave away many fouls and we gave the opponent the opportunity to be strong in their set pieces, they had seven corners in the first half which is massive. We didn't defend well before we gave the opportunity to be dangerous in our box.

"Our fans were intense, even at 4-0, and we were not. We reacted a bit during the second half, tried to change the dynamic a bit but it was too late. It is a strong reminder, we drop our standards maybe 10% and we were punished, which was the case today. We were not at their level, no excuses."
Hopefully he knows what to do but I'm not expecting fireworks. Words just words.

I can’t believe I’m reading posts saying no alternative plan with RLB. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a manager at Sunderland in my lifetime who has more plans than RLB. He’s always changing it up during a game and if you can’t see that, then you haven’t been paying attention.

Bob Paisley took over the manager's role from Bill Shankly, and provided a few classic quotes of his own.

"If you're in the penalty area and don't know what to do with the ball, put it in the net and we'll discuss the options later."

"Still we've had the hard times too - one year we finished second."

We all should know by now that the players will stick together because KLD has created this . .
There looked a few seats empty after half time , are these the seats they have to leave open ?

Was interesting to talk to the loud bloke and his lad who sit near me Last few games they have been critical of everything and tonight didnt stop complaining all first half. Turns out they only started coming the back end of last season and this is their first year as season ticket holders.

When they said tonight was the worst they had ever seen and I asked if they remembered some of the league 1 games that were genuinely awful, their answer was "didnt come then as it wasnt worth the effort"

Spot on <ok>

WTF happened tonight is any ones guess.
Are they on the beach?
Are some players looking to not get injured as they will be playing in the world Cup.
Has RLB's team selection been wrong.
Has RLB's set up been wrong.
Is Le Fe wasted out in wide positions.
RLB has stated he is no Pep Guardiola so why is he sticking with this playing out from the back (I heard a supporter saying this on the radio).

It is a blot on his rap sheet mind. Our worst home defeat for over 60 years so they need to bounce back

I'd like to see Le Fee in the middle for this one, purely as he is our most creative player. Diarra has been playing OK but his passing in the final third has been poor the last few games. I think playing Le Fee there would lead to Brobbey having the ball a lot more.

I'm aware this may look like he is being dropped due to the miss, which isn't the case. Also why I think he will still start tomorrow night.

That’s the team that should have started Diarra has been of his game for a while.
