    speaking of our scouting network...

is no one else a little bit twitching about the prospect of someone like Graham Carr being poached away for big money as well as our star players?

think about it, if they're saying that tiote and cabaye are worth £20m plus then and we've signed them for about £8m then he's effectively earned the club £30m plus in profit on them. it doesn't take a genius to work out that that you could pay the guy a lot of money for his services and still be making a hefty profit. especially in a time when developing your own is becoming more prevolent.

I have thought this before. Carr is Newcastle through and through though, supporting the club as man and boy. He is like a scouting variety of Shearer.

money talks man. everybody has a price. and if someone wanted to pay him the sort of cash they paid david dein etc then he'd have to have a think about it.

I'd actually rather lose Tiote than Carr. Sounds mad, but in the long run think of the potential that Carr could unearth. That's how important he's become to us.

Ashleys a shrewd business man and he must know hes on to a good thing with Carr in the long term. if it meant paying him over the odds to make a healthier profit in the long run then i think he'd do it. at the end of the day you can say what you like about the bloke but he does reward hard work and success in his sportsdirect stores. you only have to look at the bonuses he pays relative to the industry that his staff work in. you don't see staff at JD sports getting those sort of bonuses despite being seen as a superior retailer...

Why would anyone buy Carr? Surely the world of football, with it's multi-million pound investments and lavish developments is prime place for corporate espionage? And no, that doesn't mean submarine lotus'.

Not many clubs in the premier league, if we're honest, don't have the ability to outbid us when it's a straight fight...

True we have 6 above us who don't really care about profit and care more about success or make profit through other revenue streams. Why would Carr leave to go to Stoke, West Brom etc etc

what you need to think of though is the fact that he's unearthing these gems and signing them up on meagre fees before they;re even on the radar of bigger clubs with the clout to outbid us. and no matter how much a club can afford to pay for a player they would rather have them signed sealed delivered for £4m rather than £25 in a bidding war.

Never thought about it really, but I am very confident he wouldn't go anywhere. He loves the club. He probably gets paid a nice amount as well.

Agree totally. Earlier in the year somebody did a thread about the five players you'd least like to leave the club. I said then that Carr was more important than any one player. The summer dealings only strengthen that view for me.

... and yes i'm worried that a big fish will lure him away!

It will be a sad day when football scouts are bought and sold in the same fashion as footballers if it ever happened and the way the game keeps changing I recon it could.

    It's not football manager...

Ive got no fears about Carr going. I couldn't see him leaving this club. As for the article, I thought it was complete bollcks when I first read it since I assume they'd be checking out Nathaniel Clyne anyway...

Gives a whole knew meaning to fish bait ... :)

Any reason why you think of Tuna as being a shifty fish? I've always thought Plaice looked dodgier ... their eyes are too close together!
