I'm pretty philosophical about Monday. After today's results it's a free hit.
We have Burnley and Wolves still to play at home. If we can't take 6 points from those two games then we deserve to go down. I think 39 will be enough so anything else is a bonus. I really hope we have Gabby, Jaka and Okafor available tomorrow. We can, maybe, cover Rodon missing but not all 3. It would mean Amps dropping back. We look more of a threat with Okafor but he's made of chocolate.
I think he'll go with Gruev and Aaronson so Tanaka might be on the bench again.

I really wonder how not playing for so long will affect Scum. As they say, there's nothing like match fitness. Have any of you who played or play at a decent level got any experience of this?
It’s all about match sharpness at this stage. 3 weeks off this far through a season won’t make any difference to their fitness. The players on international duty will have kept their match sharpness and he would have had the rest in going through drills in their training sessions.

You could catch them cold in the first 10-15 minutes but it’s really minimal.

Firstly, I wouldn't say I played at a decent level. I wasn't even semi professional. It was decent enough to train twice a week in 2 x 2 hour sessions. Got to a few County Cup quarter and semi finals in front of a few hundred paying 'fans'.

As for the question itself. I'm gonna give you a wishy washy answer.

It depends on the individual player to be honest. I definitely played with lads who were rusty after 2 or 3 weeks without a game but most of us just carried on where we left off. Even training twice a week was enough to keep us sharp. Even we would have training games against our reserve side to keep things ticking along. Id be surprised if scum haven't done something similar.

One thing it can do to a team as a whole is alter the momentum either way. If you had been on a losing run you could kind of rub the slate clean and start again. Hopefully scum have a couple of players who are rusty and their great form before the international break has run it's course and we have a rebalance of their form.

It really is the hope that kills. I keep thinking if we could fluke a win (channel our inner Jermaine Beckford), then that would possibly be job done. Sadly I believe this will be little more than damage limitation.

Agree with this. It’s just how quick they recover their patterns of play with each other, hence my comment about catching them cold at the start of the game.

At that level, it could be instantly. 3 weeks isn’t long. It could be viewed differently if this way the first international break.

The break certainly didn’t help Wolves who were in better form before the internationals (I’m clinging onto Emu’s hopes <laugh>).

Good luck tonight. It’s not the game that will define your season. That’s the likes of Burnley home and Spurs away.

Hope you get something tonight though. Send Spurs down would be glorious.
Be even better for me as i have a son who supports them. He owes me a fair chunk of money and broke all contact when i asked for it back 16 years ago.
