Good Morning. It's Monday 13th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Leeds chances against the top flight's most in-form side

As Leeds United make the hundred-mile (round) trek across the Pennines tonight, the odds are firmly stacked against Daniel Farke and his injury ravaged squad. It's been 45 years (1981) since "Welsh Wizard" Brian Flynn secured a famous 1-0 league victory at Old Trafford. But as the boys in white prepare to step out for the most eagerly anticipated game of the season, we look at their chances of taking something from the game.

Facing the most in-form side in the Premier League, who have ruthlessly hoarded 23 points from their last 30, is a tall order for any club. For Daniel Farke’s side, it feels especially precarious. With key figures like Joe Rodon, Dan James, and Anton Stach ruled out, and a nervous wait on the fitness of Gudmundsson, Bijol, and Okafor, the squad looks stretched to its limit. Leeds haven’t exactly been road warriors this season, managing only one league win away from Elland Road, and with 16 goals shipped in their last ten away fixtures, the defence will need to be at its absolute best to contain the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Šeško and Bryan Mbeumo.

Discipline will play a major part in proceedings tonight. A couple of rash challenge and a few early yellow cards against such a potent Manchester United attack, and it could turn out to be a long, grueling night. Farke is now forced to gamble, potentially pinning his hopes on players without much game time, with Willy Gnonto, Sean Longstaff, AO Tanaka and Facundo Buonanotte, all needing to deliver the performances of their lives. It’s a classic "David vs. Goliath" setup, and while the odds are firmly stacked against the Whites, that’s exactly the kind of chaos that makes the beautiful game so unpredictable.

Joseph ACL agony

Leeds United’s transfer plans have been thrown into a bit of a tailspin following some gut-wrenching news regarding Mateo Joseph. The 22-year-old striker, who’s spent the season on loan at Mallorca, was holding out hope that a recent training ground collision was just a nasty knock. Unfortunately, the diagnosis from the medical team in Spain is about as grim as it gets: a Grade 3 ACL rupture. In plain English, that’s a complete tear where the ligament is snapped in two, leaving the knee totally unstable.

It’s a heart-breaking turn of events for Joseph, who was clearly "very upset" by the news. He’s made no secret of the fact that he doesn't see his future at Elland Road, and before this setback, Mallorca was actually looking into making his stay in La Liga a more permanent arrangement. Now, with a recovery timeline of up to a year, those plans have essentially been tossed out the window. He’ll be sidelined for the rest of this season and a good chunk of the next, meaning any hopes of a fresh start this summer are currently on ice.

For the brass at Leeds and the 49ers Enterprises, this is another bitter pill to swallow. The club’s recent strategy of shipping players out on loan rather than securing immediate permanent sales has come back to haunt them yet again. Instead of cashing in on Joseph this summer to balance the books, the Whites are now stuck with an injured asset whose market value is effectively frozen. It’s a tough break for everyone involved, but for Joseph, the long, gruelling road to recovery starts now.

I was there when little Flynn tucked home that goal and tbh we hadn't done much leading up to it and were very fortunate with the win... another repeat would be massive, but isn't it just like us to do that and then lose at home against wolves <whistle>.... it's a funny old game

Morning all

Everyone has Spurs as good as relegated, I would not write them off yet but it seems there is huge support willing for them to drop down a division. With no wins and everyone predicting they are as good as down that pressure will mount incredibly on them

I would love a point tonight but I don't want us to go all out for it and come away with no points and any further injuries. On the other hand upsets have been in abundance this season, a win and we'd certainly start to feel safe with Wolves at home next

For me, I think we have to get home wins against Wolves and Burnley, ensure we don't lose to Spurs. Normally I would be elated that we have to play the bottom four teams but I fear that gives Spurs and West Ham hope

Looking at the remaining fixtures, Forest have a tricky few games ahead of them

I think Leeds, Spurs, West Ham and Forest all have two wins in them, it just depends who can get those extra couple of points that might matter or who slips up and doesn't take those 6 points on offer

A point for us tonight would be huge as our GD with Spurs is the same

Me to, the closest we had come to scoring that night, was an Arthur Graham shot, that ended up just missing the corner flag and going out for a throw in. That's one of 3 memories I have from that night, 2nd being Flynn's goal and the 3rd some middled aged scummer, calling me a 15 year old, a Leeds twat and punching me in the face.

My aunt was a scum fan and took me to the game as a birthday present, hence we had travelled on their supporters bus, thus I was sat in the home end. My dad had warned me to remember that I was sat with opposition fans and thus keep my mouth shut. I had done really well, as we were so crap there wasn't anything to cheer about anyways, then we scored and all my dad's "wise words" were completely forgotten, as it was just to funny.

Never been back to that place since.

You should be re-named Old School <laugh>

Looking at their remaining games, and their post xmas form, they wont pass 36 points. Ive said for a long time 38 will stay up and haven't seen anything to change my mind. In theory a win against wolves would nearly have us safe. Lets face it, if we can't beat them were hopeless

Scum are flying now, they know beating Leeds is vital right now for CL, so they will be on it tonight ... could be another walloping for our boys, damaging our goal difference ... nil points for us

Big concern for me is that although we're battling and staying in games, we simply can't find a way to win ... biggest problem is DCL struggling to score, and we need him to find form quickly ... Spurs still have the talent to get the wins they need, Sham have been given confidence after coming back from 2-0 down against us, Forest are fighting all the way ... even Wolves are looking decent now that they can play without pressure and knowing they are putting themselves in the shop window for moves next season

I am genuinely worried that our inability to win games will hurt us at this stage, draws now don't help as much ... Spurs are only one win away from us, and we are in a dangerous position because we haven't been able to get the wins in tight games ... it really is a huge problem for Farke, and he may well have to bring in Nmecha or Piroe for DCL to try and find goals

I know the whiners on social media have written Piroe off, but he's still a goalscorer, he has the right instincts and excellent technique ... playing Nmecha up top for Piroe to play off could well be what's needed ... the issue is that Farke then won't have room for Okafor/Gnonto

The three CBs system means no room for wingers, limiting Farke's ability to include attack-minded, creative players like Gnonto and Buonanotte ... and the thing Leeds need most right now is to attack and be creative ... being compact and defending well is great, but now it's time to take risks and go for wins ... Leeds need to win three more to be safe, that will make it very hard for Spurs in particular as they will need four wins ... of course, they will know they have Leeds at home to come, and by the time we go there they could well be ahead of us

Three wins needed then, but who are we capable of beating considering we've only managed seven wins all season!!!

PS: Throw in the pressure of knowing we have to win our home games, and Elland Road getting twitchy if the games are close going into the final 20 minutes, can the boys get the job done and avoid calamitous late goals being conceded? Also, is the FA Cup semi-final now a burden?

That's because he's shyte and just a poser.
He always seemed to be “the big,i am”. Without having the performances to justify it. I get that these lads have to believe in themselves but the only game I can remember when he performed really well was Chelsea away, think it might have been in the Cup.

Still a disappointing injury for the club.

Bunch of towel chuckers on here! They aren’t playing much better under carrick, just the results turned.

Yes they have a load of attacking talent and yes we have players missing but you can get at them.

Hope the players aren’t as defeatist as the fans. ALAW

When is our club officials at boardroom level going to attack these cnuts in the FA?
They let these sub standard refs get away with very poor decisions, never seem to complain.
The FA will do there best to keep Spurs in the PL, for example, the useless twat who was in the middle couldn’t wait to give them a penalty yesterday but the even bigger muppets who sit with VAR we’re that embarrassed they informed him of his poor decision.
The Re- arranged match with Bournemouth is a joke, 4 days prior to a semi final and on the south coast, why do we accept all this crap dished out to us and have done for decades eg play a cup final and 48 hrs after play Wolves to win the double, it stinks and it’s about time the board challenged these ****ers, enough is enough.
